Very exciting news for fans of The Beatles: Rock Band. Harmonix, MTV Games and Apple Corps have announced that they will be releasing the entire album for Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band as downloadable content. Gamers won’t have to wait long with the content due to be in the store starting November 17,2009.

The “Complete Album Pack” features:
Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band singles: “Fixing A Hole,” “She’s Leaving Home,” “Being For The Benefit of Mr. Kite!,” “Within You Without You,” “When I’m Sixty-Four,” “Lovely Rita,” “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band (Reprise)” and “A Day In The Life.”

The Individual tracks available are:
“Fixing A Hole,” “She’s Leaving Home,” “Being For The Benefit of Mr. Kite!,” “Within You Without You,” “When I’m Sixty-Four,” “Lovely Rita,” “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band (Reprise)” and “A Day In The Life.”

The complete Rubber Soul album will be coming to DLC in December.

The most popular book for people to read is The Beatles Anthology. Written based on oral conversations and stories from Paul, George, and Ringo for the TV documentary The Beatles Anthology as well as excerpts from interviews with John. Their stories are offset with comments from some of their closer associates, and with everything combined makes for one great read. I’ve been able to peruse this massive book and for old and new Beatles fans alike this is definitely a good book to start with. It’s wonderful to read about the story of an music artist in their own words. The Beatles Anthology is also great for all of the pictures, posters and other various memorabilia that are included within the pages.

For those who want to read more on the music, I recommend Tell Me Why by Tim Reily. In this book, Reily goes song by song, album by album and analyzes the music made by The Beatles to show that they are more than just teen idols. Each song is analyzed through lyrics and music composition to bring out the meaning and innovation behind their hit songs. Again another great read, and something a little different to check out. Definitely a great read for those who are into musical nuances.

As a companion to Tell Me Why, there is A Hard Day’s Write: The Stories Behind Every Beatles Song by Steve Turner. In this book, Turner tracks down the real stories behind the songs, like the real Doctor Robert and Bungalow Bill. Turner tracked down and interviewed these subjects as well as people close to The Beatles in order to get the stories behind the songs. Not as in depth of a look as Tell Me Why, but fun to read nonetheless.

Now if you want to focus on a more specific time period, there is Ticket to Ride: Inside the Beatles’ 1964 and 1965 Tours that Changed the World by Larry Kane. A bit more racy, this book is from Larry Kane who reported on these tours. Since he was around the same age as the Beatles during this time, they got along well and the Beatles gave him exclusive and in-depth interviews. Ticket to Ride seems like a great piece of documentation from an interesting point in music history. Beatlemania was quite the phenomenon, and The Beatles are definitely a cornerstone in rock and roll history.

In my searching for good books on the Beatles, I also found this list from Amazon that has the above titles as well as some others that may interest people wanting to learn more about the fab five. It has definitely made me want to borrow The Beatles Anthology from my Dad to peruse again!

Hey Jude The Beatles

“don’t make it bad. Take a sad song and make it better. Remember to let her into your heart, Then you can start to make it better.”

Any Beatles fan knows this song. This song has been an anthem for many people going through rough times or people that just enjoy a good slow song once in a while. Across the Universe helped its popularity. Bands have done covers of it.

Including my high school’s marching band. This song has a lot of meaning for me because I played it my Sophomore year in high school (just 4 years ago, okay?) as the senior band students’ song, when we do our good-byes and recognize everything they’ve done.

The year we played that song was my first year as a trombonist. I practiced hard to make sure every line was perfect; I wasn’t playing for myself, I was playing for my section leader, my best friends, and for the rest of the seniors, knowing that in two short years, I’d be in their place, though my graduating class had a less… emotional song in mind. You know, because Class of ’08 loves the Final Countdown.

So, I’m excited to know that Beatles: Rock Band has been released. Even though it’s not on a football field late at night with stadium lights shining down on a 150-piece marching band, many people will get the chance to play and enjoy amazing songs The Beatles made, and someday soon, they, too will be playing Hey Jude.

Firstly, before you start rocking out to Beatles tunes in your living room, test your trivial knowledge of the Fab 4 here! Twenty questions, but be careful, they aren’t all multiple choice!

Secondly, this is a fun and challenging driving game in which you must drive the Magical Mystery Tour Bus, Yellow Submarine, and other vehicles around Liverpool to pick up each member of the band and get them to Speke Airport so they can fly to The States and play Shea Stadium, because they’ve got a Ticket to Ride! Enjoy! And watch out for those crazy English bus drivers!

It took me 11 and a half minutes to get through it the first time (I got very familiar with the phrase, “They don’t make ‘em like they used to. Try again.” How long did it take you?

Beatles Rock Band

EA has released a new GamesCom trailer for The Beatles: Rock Band featuring many new songs! It features “A Hard Days Night”, “Drive My Car”, “Dear Prudence” and more. Showing just how hard The Beatles: Rock Band is going to rock.

The title is out on 9/9/09 for the PS3, Wii, 360 and PS2. Enjoy the video from IGN.

The Beatles Rock Band trailer and some songs may have leaked out yesterday, but Harmonix and MTV one up the leak by following up with 15 announced songs and what venues they will be in. I believe this is the first time we’ve seen venues mentioned.

RockBandAide posted the latest Rock Band Beatles trailer which was found on Youtube. The trailer was supposed to be only available to the pre-order club on the Beatles Rock Band site.
