    Porn Kings wants PS3 support

The boss of the world’s largest pornography producer has asked Sony to make downloadable HD adult movies available through Playstation Network. In an interview with MCV, Vivid Entertainment founder and co-chairman, Steven Hirsch said that porn films on the Playstation3 had “real potential” for the adult entertainment industry. Japanese DDM.tv will be bringing Blu-Ray-quality HD adult movies as a download service for PS3 owners but it’s regional for now. Hirsch told MCV this week: “[DDM’s launch] is a good start. We hope that Sony will allow adult movies to be downloaded worldwide.” “As long as proper age verification is in place there is no reason why consumers should not be allowed to view adult movies on any device that they desire. “It’s too early to say to what extent this could help our business, but it certainly has real potential.”

    Tink coming to Blu-Ray

This isn’t really a gadget announcement but I thought those of you that have Blu-Ray players might be interested. Disney is bringing one of my favorite characters over to Blu-Ray. Four installments in the Tinker Bell Series will be coming to Blu-Ray and DVD at the rate of one per year. These are direct-to-video films. ‘Tinker Bell,’ due Fall of 2009 will have the following films after it: ‘Tinker Bell: North of Never Land,’ to be followed by ‘Tinker Bell: A Midsummer Storm’ in 2010, and ‘Tinker Bell: A Winter Story’ in 2011 (exact street dates TBA). Exciting news for those of us that can’t wait to get more of our Disney favorites on Blu-Ray.

It’s official and now I can get back to gadgets!

Finally the HD vs Blu-Ray wars are over. Now instead of covering the daily news and gossip on the format wars, I can now actually get back to covering gadgets that affect our daily lives. Today all the Hollywood studios announced that they are supporting Blu-Ray. So the fighting, the decisions are now all over. In the Microsoft Blogger breakfast this morning (which I will write about later), they had no comment really on what is going on with the HD-DVD drive for the 360. No plans to pull the item off of shelves or price drop were announced. Doesn’t mean they won’t but as of now nothing. They also are not stating if they will support the Blu-Ray format and come out with a Blu-Ray format saying that they feel that the Xbox 360 is a premier game system and should be used as such. I am glad that

The end of HD is almost official

The Hollywood Reporter has reported that Toshiba is expected to pull the plug on it’s HD DVD format in the coming weeks. Officially though, no decision has been made, but they are hinting something is in the works. Jodi Sally, vp of marketing for Toshiba America Consumer Products says, “Given the market developments in the past month Toshiba will continue to study the market impact and the value proposition for consumers, particularly in light of our recent price reductions on all HD DVD players.” Software and hardware sales have both dropped steadily since the Warner announcment supporting Blu-Ray. HD-DVD titles sold only 19% of high definition sales last week. Given the fact that Toshiba is looking at discontinuing their format, Microsoft must also be analyzing where they stand. Perhaps there will be an announcement at GDC made regarding if Microsoft will support BLU-Ray. Edit: Just announced today, mega-huge retailer, Wal-Mart

A couple more uppercuts to HD-DVD format

Looks like Blu-Ray won a few more rounds today in the battle of media formats. Best Buy has announced that they will be recommending Blu-Ray formats in their stores nationwide. “Because we believe that Blu-ray is fast emerging as that single format, we have decided to focus on Blu-ray products,” Brian Dunn, Best Buy’s president and chief operating officer, said in a statement. Blu-Ray will get premier space in the stores starting in March. But the HD camp doesn’t get off easy today. Netflix has also announced that it will be Blu-Ray only. Netflix will continue to carry HD-DVD titles until stock is phased out toward the end of the year but are basically disappointed in the titles that are out on the HD-DVD format. As Toshiba and Microsoft continue to cut prices on the HD-DVD players, it looks like HD-DVD may be on it’s way out. It definitely has
