First Look – Brutal Legend Demo

We’ve all seen Brutal Legend. We know that it’s starring Jack Black, that it’s helmed by the most creative and hilarious person in the gaming industry today, and we know that it’s about metal. As someone who bought three plus copies of Psychonauts for friends and family, my general reaction to this game so far has been, “of course I’m going to buy it, and it looks neat, so I hope it’s good”. Ladies and gentlemen, let me tell you… there is now good reason to be excited. EA released a couple demo codes this past week, to allow a slice of gamers to get a look at the next huge autumn game. I sat down with this beauty and loved every single minute of it. It starts with legendary roadie Eddie Riggs. He has constructed a massive stage set for a “metal” band that really puts that title to

Part 3: Interview with Brutal Legend’s Tim Schafer

Here’s the last part of our interview with Tim Schafer. It’s been pretty epic so far. Here we go! Q: As the world opens up beyond the tutorial, can you give examples of some of the missions in there and will there be cool metal stuff to unlock or uncover? A: The references are woven into it. If you are familiar with metal you’ll see bits and pieces mixed together and placed in the world. Some missions are just Eddie and his ax focusing on combat. On other missions you start building your army and use the dpad to control these guys. Eventually you have such a big army that you have a whole army on the battlefield at once and you get to pick and choose which ones to add to the battle. That’s when it expands to be full out heavy metal warfare. Q: Are there any plans

Part 2: Interview with Brutal Legend’s Tim Schafer

Here is the second part of our interview with Brutal Legend’s Tim Schafer. Let’s jump right in! Q: Can you talk about the development lessons you learned on Psychonauts and how that impacted the design and development of Brutal Legends? A: Psychonauts was kindof developed like an adventure game way. Where we built alot of assets, alot of worlds, built a lot of environments and we built alot of characters. Then on the last minute just pull it all together and make it work. OMG it didn’t work and we’re out of time, so we had to start over on some stuff. Really took a more character centered approach with Brutal Legend where we started with Eddie. We just built Eddie and said what is the central thing for Eddie to do? It’s for Eddie to walk around while playing heavy metal music and swinging his ax around. We just

Part 1: Interview with Brutal Legend’s Tim Schafer

It’s getting close to Roctober which means Tim Schafer’s Brutal Legend is almost here. Recently we sat in on a roundtable with Tim to discuss one of the more anticipated games of the year. Q: Is the demo single player or multiplayer too? A: It’s the single player demo and it shows the beginning of the game. Showing the basic mechanics and giving you a taste of what you’ll be doing in the game. The first few minutes of the game from Eddie waking up in the age of metal and the accident that takes him back in time and shows how Eddie first comes upon his Ax and how he puts together his hot rod, Duece. You meet Ophelia who is a major character in the story and you do your first double team attack with her. You get to fight a little uh boss monster. Q: The soundtrack
