Were you one of the camera geeks that anxiously hoarded a precious stockpile of Polaroid film before it went away? Even if it’s only for the nostalgia and excitement of instantly printed pictures, everyone has always loved Polaroid cameras. This week at the Consumer Electronics Show a new line of Polaroid products was introduced. Now with Lady Gaga as their new creative director, the company has introduced a line that is fashionably called The Polaroid Grey Label. The color gray, it was announced is the new black this year. Slate, granite, and charcoal are words you are going to hear not only referring to clothing, but also gadgets. Polaroid has come out of the backyard birthday party realm and into the limelight.

The Lady Gaga polaroid gadgets are an instant digital camera as well as a mobile printer. It is made with the Zink Imaging zero ink technology. One of the biggest surprises are the sunglasses camera. They are outfitted with built-in camera. Also the glasses will play videos with LCD screens.

The glasses at the moment, many are criticizing for the dangers that can be associated with the hidden cameras. There is the conjecture that people will use them to make or watch videos while driving, and for nefarious purposes. It would seem that these are futuristic, something predicted before in comics and manga. Whether they become regulated and carry warning labels or not, camera glasses were going to come just as inevitably as the flip phone did as if they existed in the SyFy zeitgeist.

Lady Gaga who considers herself a visionary, and not just a singer-songwriter, is a performance artist. The integration between the performer or observer and the experience can become seamless. But there are also many concerns ahead with having the ability to record every moment of a life. The new gadgets represent a crossover not only between retro technology and fashion, but also sexy hardware design from a team called Ammunition, which was led by an Apple veteran Robert Brunner.

Most people don’t want to dragging around big and bulky cameras.

JVC now has a solution for those of us looking for something to carry around on the run. They introduced their first pocket flash memory camera, the new PICSIO GC-FM1, which is being refered to as the Picsio. This little guy can produce 8.0 megapixel stills photos and 1080p HD video. The camera also has a 4X zoom which is clear with the image stabilization.
The camera is about the size of a small cell phone, and is available in three colors – Black Ice, Blue Steel and Purple Passion with a tone-on-tone geometric pattern and chrome accents. Very stylish for those of use the like our gadgets with a bit of personality.

Any person that has ever taken a picture with an SLR camera knows there is a feeling nothing quiet like it. I have only used a friends SLR camera myself while she was leaving it unattended for a few minutes. They take amazing shots when a person takes the time to sit down and learn there is more to a camera then the auto feature. Yet I am still trying to master this concept.

With that being said, Canon is introducing a new camera to their SLR series. It is the new Canon EOS 7D Digital SLR Camera.

Some of the features of the EOS 7D SLR is as follows:

19-point Autofocus system

A new Canon iFCL Metering System (Intelligent Focus, Color, Luminance) and a new Intelligent Viewfinder.

An 18-megapixel Canon CMOS sensor

Dual DIGIC 4 Imaging Processors fuel the EOS 7D’s 14-bit A/D data conversion and its ability to freeze fast motion in high-resolution

Eight fps continuous shooting up to 126 Large JPEGS using a UDMA CF card

Wide range of ISO speed settings from 100-6400 (expandable to 12,800).

New still capture capabilities

HD video capture at 1920 x 1080 resolution with selectable frame rates of 24p, 25p or 30p.

Built-in Dual Axis Electronic Level, featuring an artificial horizon over the image on the rear LCD screen in Live View or in the viewfinder using illuminated AF points for easy leveling while shooting.

Pop-up flash features a built-in Integrated Speedlite Transmitter

Quick Control Button, which opens an easy-to-navigate menu on the camera’s LCD screen

RAW/JPEG toggle button providing quick dual-format shooting, allowing photographers to quickly add large JPEG or RAW file formats

3.0-inch solid structure Clear View II LCD screen with 920,000 dot/VGA resolution for enhanced clarity and color when viewing images.

Nine internal seals enhance weather resistance

150,000-cycle shutter durability

WFT-E5A wireless file transmitter

Three new lenses; the EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM, EF-S 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM, and EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS lenses.

(All features have been taken from the Canon press release.)

What is unique about this camera is the new wireless fire transfer which is designed specifically for the EOS 7D.

The WFT-E5A wireless transmitter offers professional photographers a wide range of digital connectivity options including IEEE802.11a/b/g and Ethernet, ideal for commercial and studio work. The WFT-E5A wireless file transmitter opens the door to new possibilities in remote and Geotagged shooting applications.

What does this exactly mean for photographers?

“Photographers can fire up to 10 cameras simultaneously from across the room or across the country while maintaining control over camera settings and remote live view on a laptop or smart phone. The WFT-E5A wireless transmitter can also transfer and display images on DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) compatible televisions and photo frames. Geotagging is now possible via Bluetooth, using compatible GPS devices to append coordinate data to the images.”

This creates a whole new opportunity to use wireless internet in order to collect and file images.

What is all of this going to cost you at the end of September when this wonderful piece of SLR machinery arrives in stores? Well, the body-only will be at a retail price of about $1,699.00. For those of you who like kits with your camera, a kit version with Canon’s EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM zoom lens at a retail price of about $1,899.00.

For the Canon WFT-E5A wireless file transmitter which will be available in early November, that will cost you about 699.99. ( All pricing is in US dollars)

The reason for all these estimates is that retailers set the piece.
