Child’s Play raises over $2 million in 2010

Child’s Play set a new record last year – gamers from around the world raised over $2 million in 2010, with a total of $2,294,317 going to purchase books, movies, toys and games for sick children in hospitals around the world. Several notable events contributed to the final total, including the Humble Indie Bundle ($300,000), the annual Desert Bus for Hope fundraiser ($207,000) and Gears of War’s “The Fate of Carmine” campaign ($150,000). This brings the organization’s final total to $8,998,564. “Just because we’ve surpassed our goal this year doesn’t mean we’re going to slow down, in fact we are planning to expand so we can help even more children next year,” said Kristin Lindsay, Foundation Coordinator, Child’s Play. Hospital wish lists are still available at Amazon and remain ripe for fulfillment. The organization is also still accepting donations via PayPal.

Child’s Play Auction and Gala raises $183,000

If you are ever in the market for a model Portal Gun, looks like we’ve got an approximate price for you – over $14,000. That’s how much a replica of the game weapon sold for at this week’s Child’s Play Gala and Auction, an annual event to raise money for the titular charity, which provides toys and games for hospitalized children both in the U.S. and around the world. “Every year we are blown away by the fantastic items and incredibly generous bids at the gala and auction,” said Kristin Lindsay, Foundation Coordinator for Child’s Play.  “Even more heart warming is the thousands of gamers that can’t attend the gala but organize their own local fundraising.  It’s this grassroots community activity the accounts for the majority of Child’s Play donations.” The Portal Gun wasn’t the only thing up for bid. PAX 2010′s Omegaclaw was also on the auction block, as

Do you want to give kids an Extra Life? We do, so you could win prizes!

We love everything related to gaming, and we love helping others out. Thankfully, we occasionally get a chance to combine the two, like with our Gamers4Haiti auction earlier this year. Now, however, it’s time to help kids and game at the same time. Sarcastic Gamer’s “Extra Life” campaign is like doing a 5K, except instead of running, we’ll be sitting in our chairs and gaming for 24 hours straight. Harder than it sounds, even if we do love gaming. Where the helping part comes in is that, much like participating in a race, we need sponsors. We’ve had really good luck so far, but we decided that we need one more push to help Children’s Miracle Network hospitals in the U.S. and Canada – that’s where you come in. Thanks to the power of our prize closets, we’ve been able to put together some pretty cool prize packs for sponsors.

Woody and Buzz are asking to not only have us enjoy the movie, but would like to ask the public to remember to give the joy of toys to others. Pixar is teaming up with Toys for Tots to start a summer toy drive for children that may go without toys otherwise during the holiday season. “We are thrilled to be working with Disney•Pixar’s ‘Toy Story 3’ on this special summer toy raising event,” said Bill Grein, vice president, marketing and development for The Marines Toys for Tots Foundation. “We are so proud of the fact that the gifts raised in each of the 24 cities will remain in those specific cities and will eventually be distributed to less fortunate children in those communities. It is truly a program where anyone
