Kickstart Womanthology!
I am so impressed and excited about the Womanthology project on on Kickstarter. It’s a massive undertaking headed by Renae De Liz, illustrator of The Last Unicorn for IDW Publishing (which was beautiful btw). IDW has offered to publish the book that features an assortment of over 140 female creators. You can see the full list here. The project is on Kickstarter because the proceeds of the book will be going to a charity, GlobalGiving.org. So the Kickstarter is to run a small print run of 1500 copies for $25,000. It just launched yesterday and as of today has $23,622. Every donation has something you receive for your pledge. It varies with the larger amounts offering one of a kind rewards. I donated earlier today and I really encourage you to donate if you can. It’s great to see a project like this be made in a time where Women

Review – Mouse Guard: The Black Axe #1 & #2
Written, Illustrated and Cover by: David Petersen There are quite a few elements that allow for Mouse Guard to stand out among many other graphic book series today. Its absolutely rich, stunning illustrations and attention to character detail with creatures great and small cannot be denied. David Petersen does an excellent job at extracting readers and placing them in a world completely unlike their own from the very first adventure on. He manages to do so with grace simultaneously; the content’s a delight. It’s easy to get a sense of medieval tranquility mixed in with the dangerous excitement of unfamiliar lands. The mice featured in the series are nothing short of extraordinary. They are varying degrees of boisterous and introverted. They act of their own volition; they speak, trade, create and destroy. Sometimes they work together with other animals for the purposes of safekeeping, transportation and even a general friendship

Free Comic Book Day is Saturday, May 7th
Don’t forget that this Saturday, May 7th is Free Comic Book Day. If you haven’t already, make plans to look into what comic book stores near you will be carrying FCBD comics. A lot of stores use this day as an opportunity to bring in special guests for the day, so you might be in for an extra treat. I already know that the store near my house, not only has a decent number of special guests coming in for the day, but they’ve changed the policy to allow guests to pick up one of each FCBD title this year. Want to know what’s going to be available? You can check out the full list over at FreeComicBookDay.com and you can also check their Store Locator for stores near you that are participating. Below are just a few of the comics you might be able to pick up: Amazing Spider-Man

Dark Horse Comics Will Be Digital (Eventually)
Dark Horse, is the latest comic publisher to go digital. They’re joining the charge led by Marvel and DC in bringing their comics to digital formats and hopefully, they’ll have learned from the mistakes made by their predecessors. The digital versions aren’t yet available, but you can sign up here (http://digital.darkhorse.com) to get updates on the pending digital versions. However, at C2E2 (Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo) this past weekend, people were able to get a look at the new iOS technology that Dark Horse had on hand. While the launch for their digital distributions was originally slated for this past January, due to Apple’s restrictions on items available for purchase outside of iTunes, they were forced into a later release. And what they had at C2E2 was only the beta version. Hopefully, we’ll see something more concrete soon.
