Guest Article: GameX Day 1
After some hectic confusion in the morning with media passes, I was well on my way to experiencing GameX. GameX is the three-day convention in Philadelphia, PA that offers everything geek culture: video games galore, Steam Punk, robotics, comics, cosplay, and more. It’s similar to a convention like PAX, but on a lesser scale. I’ll be first to admit that the east coast gets the raw end of the deal on these types of events. Since it was Friday, and the kiddies were in school and the parents at work, it was definitely a slow day. Friday in the middle of the day just doesn’t seem like an optimal day/time for a gaming convention. Due to the way the event was scheduled, there was not much going on Friday anyway. So this gave me a great chance to take a look at everything and really take it all in. I

Sexism and the EA/Dante’s Inferno – ‘Sin to Win’ Contest
So, at Comic-Con, happening now, the upcoming EA title Dante’s Inferno has issued a challenge to attendees: Sin to Win. And what do you win? A night out with hot girls – dinner and limo rides and some money. But how do you win? “Commit Acts of Lust” with a booth babe at SDCC. Wait….what? No, you read that right. The Contest flyer states in order to win you have to Commit Acts of Lust, “by taking pictures with a booth babe” (or an EA/Dante’s Inferno rep) and submit them over Facebook at Twitter. Okay, so we all know there’s booth babes, and for whatever reason the girls are there, they head into the job expecting a certain amount of oogling by the general population of the convention. But this sort of contest is sexist in a big way. Are there male booth babes? No. And if you won could

Dante’s Inferno protest was staged
At E3 2009, a group of protesters gathered to yell about the evilness of Dante’s Inferno, an upcoming Electronic Arts game. Twenty people stood outside the convention center handing out pamphlets and carrying signs that said, “Hell is not a Video Game” and “Trade in Your PlayStation for a PrayStation.” Turns out that all twenty of those people were hired actors by Electronic Arts for a viral marketing campaign. EA spokeswoman Holly Rockwood says the stunt was arranged by a viral marketing agency hired by EA. Look for our impressions of Dante’s Inferno this weekend on GamingAngels.com.
