Blizzcon 2011 schedule
For lucky Android and iPhone owners, you can now download an official Blizzcon 2011 app that has the map of the convention as well as the schedule for both days. The app itself is actually designed quite nicely and you can sort the schedule based on game, stage and day to find exactly what you’re looking for. Also like other convention apps, there is a map of the floor which you can zoom in and out of, plus the ability to make your own schedule. As someone who first got into convention apps with PAX and PAX-East, I’m glad Blizzard has made an app. But you all are more interested in the schedule, so check out both days below! Do keep in mind that this is subject to change (especially since there hasn’t been an official press release yet). Friday, Oct. 21 Opening Ceremony 11am -12pm, Main Stage Artists Stage

Once again, I’m sorry, Internet. Life makes me slower when it comes to uploading. So this news is a little old. Again, sorry. But that doesn’t make it any less entertaining! Foo Fighters closing out this year’s BlizzCon
Blizzard announced today that the Foo Fighters are headlining BlizzCon’s closing concert on October 22. (The convention itself is October 21-22.) This will be Dave Grohl’s second BlizzCon appearance in two years — last year, he served as drummer to Tenacious D. “We’re pretty sure that in the future, music historians will look back at BlizzCon 2011 as the unquestionable pinnacle of Foo Fighters’ long and illustrious career,” said Dave Grohl, Foo Fighters founder and frontman. “We look forward to living up to that prediction by bringing the Horde and Alliance together to rock the hell out of Anaheim next month.” Grohl & Co. aren’t the only performers at the event — The concert will open with a performance from The Artist Formerly Known as Level 80 Elite Tauren Chieftain, followed by Blizzard’s own in-house metal band. (Wait, Blizzard has an in-house band? Why is that ridiculous, awesome and not

‘Diablo III’ officially set for release in early 2012
Today, Blizzard announced that “soon” was too soon when it comes to Diablo III. Apparently, they really were initially pushing for making it out this year, as many have guessed, but the game just won’t be ready by the end of December. Mike Morhaime, CEO of Blizzard, wrote in his blog post that, “…this week we pulled together people from all of the teams involved with the game to decide whether we felt it would be ready before the end of December, and we grudgingly came to the conclusion that it would not. Ultimately, we feel that to deliver an awesome Diablo sequel that lives up to our expectations and yours as well, we should take a little more time and add further polish to a few different elements of the game.” After getting quite a few hours of hands-on with the beta, I can only agree. There are a

PayPal + ‘Diablo III’ auction house = best friends forever
Blizzard’s just revealed their money-handling partner for Diablo III‘s in-game, real-money auction house — and it’s PayPal, something that a large part of the Internet already uses a lot anyway! This PayPal alliance will allow you to cash out your auction profits. You can also use them anywhere PayPal’s accepted. Blizzard is also adding PayPal as a payment option on Battle.net, so hey, your eBay auctions can go toward buying time for your WoW account, or even saving up for that sweet new mount. Region-specific details are coming soon.

Weekly Roundup Episode 18 — listen to find out how you can win a copy of RIFT
Not-so-live this week, since there’s so much traveling going on in our ranks. Except for me, because I never go anywhere, apparently. Instead of a question, Elizabeth talks GenCon, since she was kind of right there at the time. (On that note, apologies for the somewhat subpar audio quality.) Then it’s on to what we’ve been playing and the news (PS Vita’s 2012 release, new stats on in-game purchasing habits and Diablo III’s real money auctions included). I may or may not still have a Tiny Tower problem that is the subject of much ridicule, most of which is my own. Also, listen to find out how you can win a copy of RIFT. You know you want it. Download the mp3 here. As always, we encourage you to check out our partners in GamingAngels Presents: The Married Gamers, Game Dames and PrincessCast. Be sure to take a listen to

Auctions in ‘Diablo III’ use real money
I guess that in the future when we play Diablo III, we’ll have to start taking some new things into account. For instance, do you really want that item, or are you willing to sell it for cash? In addition to the auction house utilizing in-game gold, Blizzard is including another auction house, this time allowing you to trade cash for items. So, how much do you really want that in-game ring? Or…how much do you want to keep it? Money that you make in-game can be applied to Blizzard items, or removed from the game via a third-party to spend as you please. Basically, if Blizzard didn’t do this, an outside service would have eventually stepped in, or people might have started selling coveted items on eBay. It’s happened before, and it would definitely happen again. Keeping it all official makes sure that the quality of service is consistently

GamingAngels Weekly Roundup Episode 6
It’s episode 6! That’s worthy of a celebration, right? We think so. In fact, celebrations all the time! But before we can get to that, it’s time for the question of the week (from @JordanRodkey), what we’ve been playing and the news. You’ll hear it all in this week’s show. (Notes are below the player, as per usual.) Download the file here. 5 – Are social/Facebook games going to crash like Denis Dyack thinks they will? 4 – Yay! We should have a Diablo III beta soon! 3 – Angry Birds in the Chrome Web app store 2 – There’s a bit of a hullaballoo around Brink. What happened, and how can other companies avoid this? 1 – And hey! We’re giving away a scholarship to computer camp (know any girls ages 8-18?) as well as a prize pack of games (for anyone who isn’t a girl ages 8-18). That’s

Activision Blizzard earnings call reveals ‘Diablo III’ beta for Q3 2011
If you’ve been waiting for Diablo III like I have, information revealed during yesterday’s Activision Blizzard earnings call is definitely worth getting excited over. Mike Morhaime stated that Blizzard is currently looking to launch a public beta for Diablo III during the third quarter of 2011. This is after a staff-only alpha that is presumably going on now, according to slides accompanying the call. Despite this, don’t expect the game to release this year. The same slide displayed information stating the Blizzard is “driving hard” to get the game released in 2011, but you know Blizzard. It’s done when it’s done. (And my husband and I will play the heck out of it at that point.)

Blizzard’s hiring – is “Diablo III” coming to consoles?
This is more than a little interesting – a collection of new job notices recently appeared on Blizzard’s website, and it looks like they want to bring Diablo III, which has been in development for PC since 2008, to consoles. [These were originally spotted by Gamasutra.] Currently, they’re looking for lead designers and programmers as well as a senior producer for console versions of the game. All positions require experience shipping AAA-level content, and a love for Blizzard games and Diablo is a plus here. This is by no means a confirmation of Diablo coming to consoles. It does mean that someone at Blizzard is considering that move, however. Would you play a console Diablo title? Or is this one kind of game that just plain works better with a keyboard?
