    A look at D23 Expo

Last weekend I went to D23 Expo. The expo is a highlight of all things Disney. My previous post was full of the great pictures I took at the event. Now I have an edited video (warning…I’m new at editing), from the event. You’ll get to see some Kinect Disneyland, Fairies announcements, and Disney Celebration! I’ll be at Disney today and I hope you enjoyed this video!

    A day at D23 Expo

This past weekend I went to the D23 Expo at the Anaheim Convention Center. D23 is the official Disney Fan Club. Anyone can purchase tickets to the expo, but D23 members get exclusives all year long. Find out more about D23 Expo here. The convention covered many, if not all the aspects of Disney. Games were there with Disney Universe and Kinect Disneyland (more on that in another post). Consumer Products showcased many great new products that made me want to do some major shopping. Disney Baby is coming out with a new line of baby items. One is like a onsie that has a second set of buttons that allow an outfit to be used at least a little longer while the baby grows. Pretty smart. Disney Books was there to talk about their latest selections. The color on the floor really came from the new Disney party offerings.

‘Disney Universe’ adds classic character costumes

A Disney game has managed to fly completely over my head, it seems. In Disney Universe, set for release this fall on PS3, Wii, Xbox 360, PC and Mac, you play as…well, I don’t know what to call them. Perhaps “things that you dress up” is sufficient? Anyway, you dress up these things as Disney characters and explore six worlds from various Disney films (Pixar included). Your exploration is aided by characters like Alice, Mike, Sulley and Stitch. I’m not entirely sure what the point is, but the press release was pretty sure to note that this is the first time some characters and world have been united. I am not sure if Kingdom Hearts counts in this tally. If it does, I’ll switch that “first” to “third,” because you could totally summon some characters no matter where you were. So, ha? You can also team up with three of

Disney, Marvel and Warner Bros pulling out of SDCC?

As someone who has attended San Diego Comic Con for 13 years, this both boggles my mind and makes sense. The NY Times had an article up earlier this week that Warner Brothers, Walt Disney Studios, Dreamworks Animation and Marvel Entertainment are on the fence about coming to Comic Con 2011. Over the past five years, SDCC has become known for it’s coverage of pop culture more than a celebration of comics. Studios ran to SDCC to create buzz for their film from the geeks attending. Only this past year, the buzz wasn’t enough to cover for horrible movies. Movies like Sucker Punch, Megamind, Scott Pilgrim and even Tron had much hype at SDCC, but when the films came out, they bombed. Warner, Disney and Dreamworks are definitely not coming to SDCC. Marvel Entertainment is on the fence and hopefully that just means their movies because it would be ridiculous

    Review: Tangled

Rating: E (for Everyone) Genre: Adventure Publisher: Disney Interactive Developer: Planet Moon Studios Release Date: November 23, 2010 RENT In Disney’s Tangled, you can take on adventure alone as both Rapunzel and Flynn, or play along with a friend.  The journey is completely based on the movie storyline and you’ll see many recognizable environments and hear one-liners straight from the script.  Kids will enjoy the multiple activities and working as a team with a parent or sibling is a fun way to complete the game.  My kid and I had a few laughs during our play through.  Each character has their own special abilities.  Rapunzel can use her golden hair to swing across gaps, pull objects and climb.  She can also grow flowers in “charm mode” and collect a variety of colors to draw and paint the tower wall or collect sun drops to earn points.  She can also let down her flowing

Some Disney staff get the axe due to “restructuring”

A significant portion (some are saying that it could be nearly half) of Disney Interactive staff have been laid off, according to several reports. However, this isn’t surprising, given that Disney has started to shift away from console gaming as a whole – first by acquiring social game developer Playdom earlier this year, then putting their CEO, John Pleasants, into power as head of Disney Interactive. When that happened, they called it “shifting [their] investment,” and that sort of strategy appears to be what Disney is sticking to, telling Variety that the layoffs yesterday occurred “[a]s part of setting a strategic direction for future success in the digital media space.” This “restructuring process” appears to be pretty far-reaching, with Warren Spector’s Junction Point Studios (who only recently put out Epic Mickey) also taking a hit. The development studio behind the canceled Pirates of the Caribbean game was also closed last
