“I think we can put our differences behind us. For science. You monster.”
Where would we be without the glorious undertaking of Portal? We’d still be roaming our little world, blissfully unaware that the cake is indeed a lie. Gun turrets wouldn’t be cute, somewhat cuddly, and self deprecating. We wouldn’t have an ineffable attachment to cubes with hearts on them. Jonathan Coulton would still been a Code Monkey. And we certainly wouldn’t slide forever. Thankfully, Valve did make our gaming dreams come true with the creation of Portal; a resounding success on all fronts. We begged and pleaded with them for more. And, for a time, we thought that Valve didn’t hear us. We rioted in our gamerly ways on forums and message boards: Valve, where the hell is Portal 2? We wants it! Oh they heard us alright. They heard us good. Portal 2 is the culmination of all the things that made Portal successful with a few mixed nuts through

E3 2010: Okamiden Hands-On
During a guided tour of Capcom’s booth at E3, I had the chance to try out the new Ōkami game for the Nintendo DS, called Ōkamiden. The first Ōkami game dropped for the PlayStation 2 in 2006. Following in the footsteps of Amaterasu, the sun-god-turned-wolf in Ōkami, Chibiterasu takes the form of an adorable wolf pup for the mission ahead. Chibiterasu will join forces with a rich cast of characters to fight off a new threat that has leeched the world of its vibrant color again. Beyond the battles, Chibiterasu and the partners you meet along the way will come to realize their inner potential and accept the kinship that comes with being the children of great heroes and gods. In the demo of Ōkamiden, you play as Chibiterasu and Kuni. Kuni is your companion; he rides Chibiterasu and follows his direction while they traverse the worlds together. Ōkamiden feels

Like art? Like music? Like demolishing everything in your path? “Rock of Ages” has you covered.
If you’re into completely annihilating your foes with boulders, look no further. Atlus and ACE Team (of Zeno Clash fame) have created Rock of Ages, a strategy game that combines art and music history with a little bit of demolition goodness, what’s not to love? Well, maybe the fact that it won’t be available until Spring 2011. In the meantime, take a gander at the E3 teaser trailer and read what Aram Jabbari, Manager of Atlus PR & Sales has to say: “A rock-solid combination of deep strategy, rock-rolling action, and captivating art and music from throughout history, Rock of Ages delivers incredibly satisfying castle-crashing gameplay with a look and feel that’s much more than a stone’s throw from the competition. Truly, the satisfaction felt when successfully crushing your opponent’s intricate defenses with your gigantic siege stone, seeing their forces driven from before you and hearing the lamentation of their

Wii’re Diskinecting
The most interesting presentation at E3 this year was actually the biggest letdown, in my opinion. I instantly felt almost hostile toward this idea, and for much more than Microsoft’s stealthy and cheaply unoriginal plan on conquering the “family-oriented” marketplace. Which, er, they most likely will by next Holiday season if we’re talking logic. Anyway, it’s only proper to explain my frustration with the concept of “Kinect.” Most of all, it’s the “casual” demographic. Firstly, Microsoft, if I truly believed holding the weight of a controller was cumbersome, I would have no “Kinection” or desire to “Kinect” to the video-game realm in the first place. As a gamer, I need a controller. No, I’m serious. I need one. It just feels right. Don’t laugh, hee. Maybe it’s because I don’t find that “simplicity” should always be the standard to look forward to. I attribute a lot of fond memories to

How will PlayStation Move work with “Heavy Rain”? This trailer explains it all
One of the announcements during the Sony press conference on Tuesday that intrigued me the most was the announcement that Heavy Rain would officially have PlayStation Move support. It was rumored, sure, but until the name popped up on the screen behind Peter Dille, it wasn’t confirmed. Heavy Rain is the kind of game that would be really fun to play all over again in a completely different way, and you’ll get to. If you’ve been wondering exactly how that was going to work, Sony released a trailer that includes a couple playing through a couple of the scenes with a Move controller in hand. It appears that having both the Move and the Navigation Controller are necessary to play. The trailer indicates that this will be “Heavy Rain: Move Edition,” so it’ll probably get some kind of repackaging, but if you own the game already, support comes through a

Disney’s “Little Green Men” E3 flashmob is pretty weird marketing
At E3, everyone’s usually concerned with the games coming out next year – not something that hit store shelves this week. But Disney was determined to get people to pay attention to the Toy Story 3 game, and what better way than organizing a flashmob when a ton of people are standing around? Over 100 E3 attendees suddenly broke out into a dance routine, all dressed in hats that would make them look like the classic squeeze-toy aliens from the movie series. Disney folks were around to catch it all on tape – the awkward dancing, the surprised looks on the faces of everyone that had no idea what the heck was going on and even the chatter of some ex-dancers after it was all over (for the record, they were totally going to get some hot dogs afterward). Effective marketing, or just plain creepy? You decide.
