20th Century Boys 3: Redemption
I not only had the pleasure to check out the new VIZ Cinema in San Francisco’s New People complex, I got to see the world premier of 20th Century Boys 3. The New People complex is located in Japan Town, right across from the plaza with the peace pagoda. The building itself is amazing. It has stores like Baby, the Stars Shine Bright, a clothing store, and a bookstore. For those of you that don’t know, 20th Century Boys is a trilogy of movies based on the popular manga of the same title. If you haven’t read the books or seen the other movies, then don’t fear! Neither had I. One of the great things about the third movie is there is a 10-minute introduction that is mainly a summary of the prior two films. This movie is the conclusion of the trilogy. Now I don’t want to give away

Guest Review: Coraline
When Lil’ ‘Ol Me is thinking of spending hard-earned dollars on a Saturday matinee, I’m more inclined to go for movies that accentuate peculiarity. Unlike the majority of my friends, I rarely spend three-hours in a Theater for ‘poops and giggles.’ I mean, yes, I’m no exception from the ‘girls just wanna have fun’ rule and I enjoy obnoxiously loud company at times, but I want something odd. I want something gross, something divine. I want something scary, something stunning. I want something disturbing, something enchanting. Call me a demanding critic, but it isn’t my fault the majority of Hollywood fails to steal my heart away. Like so many young movie-goers, I’ve realized that I’m an not only an advocate of highly-stylized movies, but I am also in love with their odd, kooky elegance. They’re strange. They stick. They enliven the imagination with abnormal shapes and tacky characters. The simple

Interview with Gamer co-creators Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor
At San Diego Comic Con Lionsgate Pictures, let a group of us ask questions to co-creators, Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor about their upcoming film, Gamer. Based on what we covered, the film promises to be a wild ride based on the worst case scenario of video games. The question of what would games be like if gamers can control actual people? Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor are known for fast action from their prior Crank films. Gamer will be no different. Mark and Taylor discussed how they enjoyed using the RED camera because it allowed them to be mobile to catch the shot. Sometimes they were rollerblading while filming to catch the action fast enough. Gamer will be the first full length movie to use the RED camera which is kindof a geeky treat. The camera is light and easy to transport. Mark also spoke about how easy it

Honey and Clover (film) Review
Title: Honey and Clover (film) Language: Japanese Subtitles: yes (English) Number of Discs: 1 Runtime: 116 minutes Sometimes it’s good to go through your closet once in a while and pick up something totally different that you probably never got a chance to watch. This is fun especially if the film is good. Honey and Clover is that type of film. I have never seen the anime or read the manga so it was a totally fresh idea and I was completely blind to the story. It’s a good thing that I hadn’t seen the anime or read the manga, I really enjoyed the film. Plot Summary: The plot is simple. This is a story about five art school students that are just trying to find their way. They get lost in the progress and that is what makes life fun. It’s a movie about living and learning. It also

Next Potter film delays Imax release
I am devastated to read about the fact that Warner Bros. has chosen to delay the release of the Imax version of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. The delay isn’t small either, it’s two weeks. I’m not the only one upset as Imax shares have dropped from the news. “Shares of Imax dropped 4% on Monday to $7.31 after a Wall Street analyst said the delay ‘should negatively impact Imax boxoffice results.’” While Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince opens on July 14, Imax theaters won’t see the movie until July 29. The July release date actually overlaps Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen which is why the Imax date is being postponed. “Potter” contains 12 minutes of 3-D footage that moviegoers can experience only through Imax. Eric Wold said, “There will obviously be some consumers that choose to wait for the Imax version with its 3-D scenes
