Review: BioShock 2
Welcome back to Rapture as the original Big Daddy searching for his Little Sister. Your 1950s posters, music and clothing still makes my heart skip a beat after all these years. It’s been nearly ten years since I was kindly asked to kill Andrew Ryan, then broke free of my chains and saved the Little Sisters from the twisted mind of Frank Fontaine, aka-Atlas. And now I am back, this time as the original Big Daddy companion, hoping to save my Little Sister Eleanor and all of the

Innovative FPS “Section 8″ Coming to PS3 – We Have Screenshots
PS3 users will finally get a chance to “burn-in” and join the fight on Section 8, TimeGate Studios’ sci-fi multiplayer first-person shooter (no relation to District 9). The PlayStation 3 version has a full single-player campaign, instant action mode (with full bot support) and a robust multiplayer mode which includes 11 multiplayer maps, three of which are not included at retail on any other platform (so you automatically get what most people have to pay extra for, it sounds like). The full version of the game will be available for purchase on PlayStation Network in Spring 2010. Section 8 includes support for TimeGate Studios’ TGNServer technology, which allows gamers to host 32 player games from their home PC. Players can configure map rotations, change server variables and set a remote admin password to administer the server in-game. Sure, it means you need to keep a computer nearby while you play,

Review: Borderlands
Borderlands may be the most ridiculously ridiculous, addictive, fun, and amazing game on the market. The designers behind this offering know exactly what they’re doing – making something enjoyable without excess baggage. Rating: M Genre: FPS/RPG Publisher: 2K Games Developer: Gearbox Players: 1-4 Release Date: October 20, 2009 BUY I’ve tried putting my finger on what makes me like Borderlands so much, and it’s really hard to do without saying things that may come across as negative. It’s also becoming hard for me to put down words here to describe a game that has so little. It’s so much more of an experience or an adventure than something modular that can be broken down into gradable sections. I’ll do my best, though. As I’ve said before, I really like that Borderlands doesn’t waste your time with a story. Don’t get me wrong, there is a story, but you don’t need

Review – Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising (and Contest)
Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising, published and developed by the British team, Codemasters is a highly realistic, tactical first person shooter. The plot takes place in an alternate timeline in 2011 where the U.S. is at war with China, due to negotiations with Russia. Despite it’s fictional storyline, the game is a pragmatic representation of a modern war in terms of atmosphere and combat. Rating: M for Mature (PEGI: 18) Genre: Tactical Shooter Publisher: Codemasters Release Date: October 6th, 2009 RENT The rendering is a bit poorly done for a next gen title, with flat, heavily pixilated foliage and washed out colors. Several aspects of the environment don’t look particular realistic, and the game is frequently colored in chromatic grays, making it hard to spot targets from a far off distance, with noticeable screen tearing. However, the maps are quite large and the draw distance in the game is immense. The

Review – Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
Rating: M for Mature Genre: FPS (First Person Shooter) Publisher: Activision/Infinity Ward Release Date: November, 2009 BUY *Review does contain some spoilers* Infinity Ward is a class act and because of that it’s no surprise that gamers have high expectations when the studio releases a title. Moving away from their World War II focus, Infinity Ward choose to bring the battle home in Modern Warfare 2. It has sold incredibly well, but the game is definitely not perfect. Is this an example of hype or does Modern Warfare 2 really live up to the praise? In Modern Warfare 2, the player controls a few different characters. Gamers will play as Sergeant Gary “Roach” Sanderson, for most of the title. Modern Warfare 2 is set five years after the events in Call of Duty 4. Vladimir Makarov, a Russian Terrorist, begins a campaign against Europe and creates a situation where the

First in-game video for Zero Gravity Shooter, Shattered Horizon
Futuremark Games Studio has released a new trailer showing the first in-game footage for Shattered Horizon. Shattered Horizon is an upcoming multiplayer first-person shooter for the PC set in zero gravity. Players will fight in zero gravity to control the limited supplies available. Not only is the trailer pretty good looking, but there was very little noise. Because we all know that there is no sound in space! The first trailer is all in-game footage showing the use of rocket packs and two players trying to take control of an asteroid. “This new trailer shows Shattered Horizon’s realistic space setting and the player’s complete freedom of movement,” said Antti Summala, lead designer at Futuremark Games Studio. “FPS fans looking for a new multiplayer challenge this holiday should check out Shattered Horizon for an experience that is only possible in a game without gravity.” Follow the website for more information on

SCEA dev suggested God of War FPS
Gamers can’t wait for God of War III to get their full of hack ‘n’ slash action on the PS3. But a part of the SCEA team wanted Kratos’ next title to be an First Person Shooter adaptation. SCEA art director Ken Feldman told CG Society that he tried to convince the team to take the next-gen Kratos in a different route. “I tried unsuccessfully to convince [director] Stig to make God of War III a first-person shooter,” he explained. “Kratos could have some truly badass huge weapons that rip gods to shreds. Unfortunately he didn’t see the genius in the idea.” Interesting, but sometimes you leave a good thing alone. [source via Split-Screen"] Edit on source.

Two weeks ago, ngmoco invited us to their community event to check out upcoming iPhone/iPod game, Eliminate.
