Target taking used games for credit
Every week Target shows their focus on the gaming industry with targeted sales. Earlier in the year, Target re-designed their stores to expand their consumer electronics area. Today we learn that Target has launched their Electronics Trade-In program. In the program, guests’ used items are “either refurbished and resold to a secondary market or properly recycled”. This makes sense for consumer electronics like digital music players, cameras, and phones. But for games as well? Guests will get credit toward any Target purchase when they turn in their new or used video games, mobile phones and iPods. “Our goal is to create the best and easiest shopping experience for our guests. As we continue to grow and enhance our consumer electronics business, we designed 1-877-myTGTtech to assist guests with any questions and technical support on their electronics purchases,” said Mark Schindele, senior vice president, Target. “Target Electronics Trade-In offers our guests

Nintendo talks NPD numbers
Nintendo’s NPD numbers came out and it’s hardly any surprise that the DS and Wii were the number 1 and 2 selling systems for the month. The Wii sold more than 1.25 million units in November and the DS/DSi sold 1.7 million. “Nintendo products top Amazon.com’s Most Wished For and Most Gifted lists for video games, and Wii remains at or near the top of the most-searched for video game terms on Yahoo!,” said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “As families and friends gather for the holidays, Nintendo games offer the best shared experiences.” Four Nintendo games were in the top 10 best seller list. New Super Mario Bros Wii came in at number 3, Wii Sports Resort at number 6, Wii Fit Plus at 7 and Mario Kart Wii at 10.

Batman takes over the UK Game charts
Batman is a very popular DC character, so it’s no big surprise that probably the best Batman game made yet, is on top of the UK Game Sales charts this week. Batman: Arkham Asylum has beaten out Ashes Cricket 2009 for the top spot. Ashes Cricket 2009 drops to number 3 as Wii Sports Resort drops down to number 2. Activision’s Wolfenstein fell to the fourth position while Wii Fit rounds out the top 5. The biggest move is definitely Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare from 17 to 10th position. Maybe a free xp weekend? But then Activision has some problems as Prototype drops to 16 from 10. Nintendo has been knocked out of the top publisher spot in the UK while EA and Activision duke it out to see who will be number 1. Both are tied at 5 titles on the countdown each.
