Empress of the Deep 2 Song of the Blue Whale
Empress of the Deep 2 Song of the Blue Whale is out and it is another terrific offering from the franchise. This hidden object and puzzle game has some of the best features out there for this type of game. The graphics, sound and puzzles are all outstanding. It has superior graphics, and a beautiful art-style for the backgrounds. There is lots of magical glitter around. Special effects move the cutscenes and animations along with cleverly used transitions. There are flowing fountains and decorative ponds surrounded by gardens. The animal Guardians in the game who are outfitted with brass fittings that are able to translate animal to human speech. The animals aren’t the only nod to steam punk in the game. Entire areas look like they have been detailed with shiny brass whatnots. It is beautiful, and once again like the first Empress of the Deep, all those pipes and

First Look: Journey (PS3) Closed Beta Preview
A couple of days ago, I lucked out snagging a beta code to Journey after winning a contest through 1UP. I was very excited to get my hands on this title, as Journey is one of my most anticipated games for the year – other than Uncharted 3, of course – and has no set release date as of yet. Journey is a PS3 exclusive title created by ThatGameCompany, the developers of the games Flower and Flow. Santa Monica Studios – the creator of the God of War series – also co-developed Journey. However, Santa Monica’s role was not a huge surprise as they have worked on other similar projects, such as the PS3 interactive art piece, Linger in the Shadows. Journey has a very mystical look and feel to it. As I wandered across a vast desert that the sand rippled and sparkled like a golden ocean. The sand dunes

Opinion: Can Video Games Make A Positive Change?
We are living in the age of technology with 3D Televisions, the internet and, smart phones. Gizmos, gadgets, electronics and social media are around every corner. It’s kind of funny to imagine life without these things years ago. One person can survive in the comfort of their home, never having to go out. I’m not one to encourage hermitage, however I myself use almost all of these on a daily basis. I’m still inclined to shop in a store versus shopping online, but that’s just me. I have seen firsthand how gaming can bring positive changes in one’s life despite the years of negativity towards games. Through twitter, I have found GamingAngels. The staff has embraced me as one of their own and in the months I have been working with them, have found a nice little family. Although we are spread out across the nation, gaming, social media & the

Nintendo reveals official 3DS launch day lineup and pricing
When the Nintendo 3DS launches on March 27, you’ll have a grand total of 16 titles to choose from if you want something 3DS-specific to play (remember, it does also play your old DS titles, unless they require the GBA slot). Nintendo thinks that over 30 titles will be launching before E3 in June, but we’ll have to see. As far as the things you can get next month, three of them are first-party (with a suggested MSRP of $39.99), with the other 13 coming from a wide variety of publishers. As far as first-party titles go, we’ll see (descriptions by Nintendo): Pilotwings Resort, an aerial adventure featuring airplanes, hang gliders and rocket belts. Players soar above tropical Wuhu Island in 3D as they complete missions or snap pictures. Steel Diver, a submarine game that involves strategy and combat. The 3D visuals give players the sensation that they are looking

Opinion: A Mother’s Thoughts on the MAVAV Organization
First, I am a Mother, and as a Mother, I feel it is my personal responsibility to monitor my children’s activities. From the time they wake up in the morning until they go to bed. When it comes to games, I enjoy all types and I consider myself a gamer. Since I enjoy this as a past-time, so does my family. I personally play games with any ESRB (Entertainment Software Rating Board) rating however, I decide what is and what is not appropriate for my children. I do not rely solely on ESRB ratings or game reviews to make those decisions. I read reviews, I ask opinions and if I buy a game, I usually try it out first. Seeing organizations like MAVAV (Mothers Against Videogame Addiction and Violence) makes me question, what type of parent would start such an organization? My opinion, a parent without responsibility. One who does

THQ at the Goldman Sachs Technology and Internet Conference
During the Goldman Sachs Technology and Internet Conference Wednesday, THQ’s Brian Farrell told investors that in order for the firm to realize the potential of its new pricing model – which debuts with MX vs ATV: Alive – console makers need to “adjust their business models.” According to Farrell, THQ’s experimental packaged goods pricing model will help bring new people into the market, which reiterates his stance on the $59.99 game price point. Thus, allowing third-parties to control their own micro-transactions on consoles, something Xbox 360 does not allow, it would become much easier to offer games at lower cost with more content available for purchase online. “What we really need, and we’ve been talking to them about it, is for Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo – if they really want to stay at the cutting edge of the games industry – they need to adjust their business models to allow
