GamesCom brings Diablo III: Reaper of Souls

Blizzard announced Diablo III: Reaper of Souls at GamesCom this week. “Malthael, the fallen Archangel of Wisdom, vanished after the events depicted at the end of Diablo II: Lord of Destruction®. In Reaper of Souls, he returns as the Angel of Death and seizes the Black Soulstone, which contains the essence of the Prime Evil. It now falls to the players to track down Malthael and stop him before he unleashes irreversible havoc on the world.” Diablo III: Reaper of Souls adds to the story but also increases the game’s level cap to 70. There will be new spells and abilities as they advance in level. “From the beginning, Diablo has always been about the struggle between good and evil, and Reaper of Souls explores the darker notes of that conflict,” said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. “This expansion also represents a big milestone in the ongoing

I could only have dreamed of this when I holed myself up in my room to play hours of CoolBoarders as a kid. SSX is taking the boarding competition online, with events that are estimated to have 100,000 people involved. (Hopefully not all on the same course.) Not only that, but you’ll be able to race friends (and ghost data).

    Convention Beat: August 2011

This past weekend, @GamingAngel and @Cherithe attended some of the biggest conventions of the year–BlogHer, and GenCon, respectively. I meant to pester them about people to talk to, things to see, and my general jealousy that they got to go to such cool conventions, but life kept me busy and I forgot until the conventions were upon us. Therefore, I have decided to keep track of upcoming conventions, along with info about Gaming Angels staff attendance. Here is a list of what is on the schedule for the rest of August.  Note: I have tried to include information on a wide variety of science fiction/fantasy, gaming and general geeky conventions, but I am not guaranteeing this covers everything. Please feel free to suggest other conventions, for this month or future months in the comments! Siggraph August 7 – 11 Vancouver, BC Going on now, this is a huge computer graphics

Infernal Engine powers “Def Jam Rapstar,” “Guilty Party” and more

So, if you know anything about putting games together, you might know that every game has an engine that allows developers to acually make the game. These engines control everything from the graphics to the way that items move in-game. It takes a lot of work to create a whole game engine, so you have to use the same ones over and over. It’s literally astounding to see the wide variety of games you can make using only one engine. In fact, Terminal Reality’s Infernal Engine is a perfect example of this. Their 2010-2011 lineup is incredibly diverse. Check it out - Wipeout: The Game (Wii) – currently available Disney’s Guilty Party (Wii) – August 26, 2010 Def Jam Rapstar (Xbox 360, PS3, Wii) – October 5, 2010 – Terminal Reality is also developing this title The Force Unleashed II (Wii) – October 26, 2010 The Grinder (Xbox 360, PS3)

GamesCom was huge and it wasn’t just the announcements

GamesCom was huge this year and that’s not just because of the announcements. But in terms of announcements GamesCom was huge as well. I can’t remember the last time I stayed up until 4am watching a live blog or watching information come pouring through the wire so I can write about it, but also just to know as a fan of gaming. Kuhrt, managing director of Koelnmesse GmbH: “The gamescom premiere ran splendidly. We are very happy with the enthusiastic response of both exhibitors and visitors. This has established gamescom as a leading trade fair straight away.” Olaf Wolters, managing director of the BIU in his summary: “We are very proud of the premiere of gamescom. It fulfilled all our
