What’s up Google? : Google gets a Spring Face lift
While proving to the students of my English class that sometimes you can not find free study guides for all English literature novels online, I noticed something. What’s up with my Google search? It has a side bar? It’s visually different? Of course, I try my best not to draw attention to it and move on with the lesson. Yet I decided to look up the reasoning behind such a change after. According to the offical google blog, they are trying to make it easier to find exactly what you are looking for while searching. “today’s changes showcase the latest evolutions in our search technology, making it easier than ever to find exactly what you’re looking for ” In today’s upgrade they have introduced two things. One feature is the new search tools on the left while the second feature is the updated visual look and feel. The left side

Have you heard the Buzz? Google Buzz that is!
Oh Google. Are we feeling left out of the social networking buzz? Wish you could be a little bit more like Twitter and Facebook? Well, your day has come! If you haven’t heard yet, Google Inc. has developed a new feature which will let users of Gmail, view status updates and media from their online counterparts. Labeled as “Google Buzz”, a tab will appear in the Gmail application where users can add media, links, photo, status updates, and of course, the @ messages for others to view. One of the pros of the Buzz is the fact that you don’t have to go through the whole adding process which was a time consuming on Twitter and Facebook. Instead, if you are linked to others via Gmail, then BAM! you are already friends. Of course, the true question is if Google Buzz can hold its own with such social giants as Twitter and

Guest Article: 2010 Upgrade Necessities for a She-Geek
There are a number of gadgets and systems I want to get in the next few months, most of which I consider must-haves. And quite frankly I can’t afford them all. Not if I want to be a responsible adult and stay on top of my mortgage repayments, keep a savings buffer and you know, eat food. Oh and there’s the wedding to pay for. Ok so I had to choose the pretty dress. And the diamond ring. Curse my materialism. My PC is SLOW. The Pentium 4 running 2Gb still does the job. And the old GeForce 7800GS graphics card runs my favourite games; BF2 and CounterStrike. She was a good machine in her day. But trying to play new games? Forget it. I have to borrow the fiance’s computer to play any new releases and trying to get near that thing is like trying to take a cat

Review of Mobile app GetFugu
I came across the GetFugu app from a press release where they announced a partnership with Summit Entertainment to add Twilight Saga: New Moon to the GetFugu service. Basically with the GetFugu app, users can get information on content in a few different ways. If they say the search term, take a picture of it or find products that are close to you. For New Moon, fans can take a picture of the Twilight: New Moon movie poster and get movie trailers, movie information, and locate the closest theater to where they are that the film is playing. “We are thrilled to work with Summit Entertainment and to be a marketing partner in this phenomenon, and help moviegoers continue their experience beyond the theater,” said Michael Jay Solomon, Chairman of GetFugu. “The ‘Twilight’ fans will certainly find our technology fun and exciting as they interact with their iPhones and experience

Nintendo is the “world’s best company”
Nintendo has been crowned by Business Week as the greatest company on Earth to work for. That’s a pretty big award for the video game giant. Nintendo beat out Google and Apple using factors like sales growth rate and rises of market capitalization. The business weekly says the table reflects: ‘commitment to innovation, diversified portfolios, aggressive expansion, strong leadership, and a clear vision for the future’. No other game company landed in the top 40.

YouTube unable to make money
YouTube has recently come under scrutiny after it’s announcement of financial operating losses. For as popular as YouTube is as a service, it still has yet to prove that it can make money. Google bought YouTube for $1.76 billion in late 2006, and acknowledges that the service isn’t profitable. Some analysts believe that Google is pretty happy with public opinion being that YouTube does not make money. “RampRate reasons the perception of large losses at YouTube helps Google negotiate more favorable contracts with movie, TV and music studios licensing their video. What’s more, copyright owners also are less likely to go to court in pursuit of unpaid royalties and damages if they believe YouTube is a big money loser, according to RampRate’s thesis. Google is no doubt thrilled to let YouTube be known as a financial folly, RampRate’s report said.” At this point Google can cover YouTube costs with the

Google to sell eBooks
Yesterday Google announced that they will be joining the eBook business and will begin offering them for sale. Google spokesman Gabriel Stricker said consumers would not be able to download books in the same way Amazon’s customers can buy copies of specific titles and store them on their Kindle. Instead, people who access books through Google would be able to read titles online and temporarily cache them in their Internet browsers so they could also read them offline. Google has also said that they will allow publishers to set their own prices, but that they will still reserve the right to discount titles “at their own expense.” This is an interesting step that they’re taking, especially with the recent book search settlement. I’m also not sure how I feel about this. I’m sure that Google will come up with a great interface and search function, but I can only assume
