Well, okay, not literally forever, but long enough that pretty much everyone knows what it is. Since Star Trek Online came out yesterday, Namco Bandai is looking for a special way to celebrate.

They’ve found it: Getting as many dressed-up Star Trek fans to London’s Millenium Bridge by 1:00 p.m. on February 14th as possible. People from the Guinness Book of World Records will be on hand to make sure everyone is in full cosplay mode, and there will even be prizes. What kinds of prizes, you may ask? Well, try a lifetime subscription to the MMO, for one. The best-dressed fans will win subscriptions or even digital versions of the recent Star Trek movie.

Sounds like it’s worth it, even if you’re a Redshirt.

The 2010 Gamer’s Edition of the Guinness Book of World Records features two notable females: Lara Croft (and her various real life stand-ins) and Lisa Courtney of Hertfordshire, England.

My dear Lara got an unprecedented six records all in one go: “Most Successful Video Game Heroine,” “Most Recognizable Female Character in a Video Game,” and “Most Detailed Video Game Character” while Tomb Raider set new records as “Highest Grossing Computer Game Spin Off”, “Most Successful Live-Action Transfer” and “Most Official Real Life Stand-Ins in a Video Game.”

Lara’s fame reached record heights a few years ago, undoubtably contributing to her recognition and success: She was the virtual spokesmodel for cars, appeared on the front cover of a magazine, and even featured prominently during U2′s PopMart tour. Not to mention the fact that the character, as played by Angelina Jolie, has two movies under her belt.

As far as that last record, Lara’s been played by 10 official models since 1996. The latest, Alison Carroll, can actually do some of Lara’s signature acrobatic moves. Quite entertaining.

As far as Lisa Courtney goes, she’s the biggest collector of Pokémon memorabilia in the world, having accumulated 12,113 different items over 13 years. That deserves recognition because of the skill it takes to put all of that stuff away in the first place. According to Lisa, the collection takes up the entire house (even her mother’s room). I guess she really had to catch them all.

Warner Bros. Digital Distribution and TT Games announced the debut of the highly anticipated Guinness World Records game app. Offering endless gameplay that showcases the powerful capabilities of the iPhone and iPod Touch, Guinness World Records features 36 game challenges based on real life world records. These competitions are as wacky and bizarre as they are challenging and fun. From crushing watermelons with the player’s head and plucking feathers from a turkey, to throwing a washing machine the farthest, all using the touch screen and motion sensing technologies of the iPhone and iPod Touch, the fun never stops.

“Guinness World Records is one of the most unique games on the App Store,” said Gary Edwards, Business Development Director of TT Games. ”Players can instantly upload their scores to Gamespy’s online leader board and truly gain bragging rights as they not only compete against friends – but the whole world.”

“Guinness World Records” features 36 challenging games including:

* ”Cockroach Eating” – Feeling hungry? ”Eat” the most in-game arthropods in the fastest time possible without ever having to touch a real bug. The current real life Guinness World Record of 36 cockroaches eaten in one minute was set by Ken Edwards. Mmm…crunchy!

* ”Watermelon Crushing” – Feeling destructive? Smash the most watermelons with your head in one minute to beat John Allwood’s actual Guinness World Record of 40, without ever having to pick seeds and bits melon out of your hair.

*”Longest Burp” – Make Mom proud as you try to beat Michele Forgione s current real life Guinness World Record of 1 minute 13 seconds 57 in the iPhone/iPod Touch game.

*”Largest bubblegum bubble blown” – Chad Fell’s current real life Guinness World Record bubblegum bubble had a diameter of 20 inches and took more than three pieces of gum to accomplish, but all you need is the game app.

Fans can view the games’ global leader board by visiting www.guinnessworldrecordsgame.com.

The Guinness World Records app works with iPhone 3G, the original iPhone, and iPod Touch and is available now on the App Store for $4.99.

Fans at the UK Download Festival set a Guinness Book World Record for most people playing air guitar at one time. 440 fans gathered at the EA Hub where fans could try out a variety of Electronic Arts games and instead of playing, rocked out to Motorhead classic, Ace of Spades.

Kerrang FM’s Christian Steveneson said: ‘That was one of the raddest jams I’ve ever been involved with. The crowd played their air guitars better than Eddie Van Halen! Then they destroyed ’em good and proper. Who cares, right? They can go to the air guitar shop and get another one. Sick to the infinity of sickness! I want a crowd like that at every gig I’m at. Awesometacular – air guitar world records rule!’

Wearing Brutal Legend shirts, some fans were invited on stage to show off their air guitar skills for a chance to win the Tenacious D Electric Guitar.
