It’s the time of the year for the best of the best. Lists that make us look back and see what made 2010 an unique snowflake.

IMDB has created their lists based on search behavior on their site and movie ratings.

I’ve only seen four of the top movies this year. But I did just get Scott Pilgrim vs the World for an early Xmas present and will be adding that to my list. How many of the top 10 movies have you seen?

Disney sent over a press release tonight to announce that a young mermaid has been cast for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. The film is the fourth in the Pirates series and so far only really stars Johnny Depp.

The mermaid, Syrena will be played by Astrid Berges-Frisbey who has previously been in French films.

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides will be shot in Hawaii, Great Britain, and Los Angeles. The film is set for a May 20, 2011 opening.

Alice in Wonderland

Not all of us can be in the UK for the live premiere of Alice in Wonderland, but at 10:15am(pacific) on GamingAngels.com you can watch the entire premier. See Alan Rickman, Michael Sheen, and of course Anne Hathaway, Mia Wasikowska, Matt Lucas, Tim Burton and Johnny Depp.

Alice comes to theaters on Friday, March 5, 2010 which is still too far away for me. I’m definitely looking forward to watching how UK greets the Alice in Wonderland stars.

Disney Studios is preparing to invade our TVs with a run of 60 second “First Looks” from Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland.

These spots will be running on Disney’s sister stations ABC, ABC Family and ESPN beginning January 31st.

“We wanted to kick off our television campaign for ‘Alice in Wonderland’ in a big way,” says David Singh, executive vice president of worldwide marketing for Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. “With Tim Burton at the helm and a cast that includes Johnny Depp, Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter and rising star Mia Wasikowska, the film already has a passionate following. Fans are eager to step into the incredible 3D Wonderland that Burton has created and get a glimpse at what he’s done with these brilliant characters, and we’re ready to give it to them.”

This series of spots and cross promotions will culminate on Feb 7th with a special spot during Super Bowl, giving viewers even more to drool about and non-football fans a reason to tune in.

It’s getting closer to March 5th and I can’t wait! Disney knows that we want more and more information so they have created “Wonderland Wednesdays” where they will be releasing new interviews, pictures, and information until the film takes place. This week we received the pictures and the trailer below! Enjoy!

In addition to the new Alice in Wonderland movie screen of Depp as the Mad Hatter, Disney has also released new screens for the DS and Wii movie-tie in games that will be released alongside Tim Burton’s masterpiece.

Check out the five Wii screens featuring Hatter and the White Rabbit, as well as four screens for the DS adaptation.

The Spike TV Scream Awards were taped last week and will be on this Tuesday on Spike TV. The stage and production value of the event was really high. The stage had a huge Donnie Darko like rabbit and the fans were all dressed in costumes. Press from all over were squashed in on the red carpet for a chance to talk to the elite group of stars that attended the Spike TV Scream Awards. Just looking at the list, it was definitely a who’s who in pop culture for the past year. The cast of True Blood was there, along with Lautner from Twilight, Johnny Depp made an appearance to introduce Keith Richards and Megan Fox was there to look pretty.

The red carpet, or rather the black and white checkered carpet had angels on swings and even a unicorn. Which many stars stopped to take pictures with and pet.

I was in the “blogger” section which was quite interesting. We were on the end, so many of the stars sped right past us on their way in. One guy standing next to me was dressed in a crazy doctor outfit and the other guy next to me asked every star what their favorite sandwich was. The stars gave him colorful responses as you can imagine. This made it pretty difficult to get a word in otherwise. Eliza Dushku literally ran past us.

One star we spoke to was incredibly nice and I really enjoyed meeting her. Jon Mack is starring in the new Saw VI movie. It was her first Scream awards and she was really excited to be there. In the Saw VI movie she plays Jane, “who has similarities to the Amanda character”. I explained to her that I’m a wuss and can’t watch scary movies, so I asked her if anything scared her in real life. Jon was scared of sharks as a little girl and has respect for them now, but still gets scared now and then.

While the red carpet was sort of a bust, the awards seemed like they were amazing. I can’t wait to watch the show on Spike TV Tuesday at 10 PM, ET/PT. I love seeing True Blood clean up with awards and I heard there was new previews shown for both Alice in Wonderland and Twilight: New Moon. Another awesome award show put on by Spike TV. I can’t wait until the VGA’s!

D23Expo

The D23 Expo invaded the Anaheim Convention Center from September 10 through the 13. The expo covered all things Disney and when Disney says that, they mean it. The coverage one would expect about upcoming additions to the theme parks to Bridal Gowns based on the Disney Princesses and everything in between. Each day of the conference featured different upcoming Disney Properties including Princess and the Frog, Tron, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Toy Story. Disney also brought in star power. Members from Dancing with the Stars and other ABC properties showed up to meet with fans and sign autographs. But the big surprises were appearances from John Travolta, Milley Cyrus,Tim Burton, Nicholas Cage and everyone’s favorite pirate Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp).

All day there were panels that were very interesting, if you could get into them. I attended the expo on Sunday the 13th and had anticipated attending four panels. I attended one. The panel I attended was the Pixar Imagineering panel which went over the details of Pixar inspired rides and attractions. Pixar believes in taking their IP and extending on it in the parks. No ride or attraction will be the same story as the film, but an extension of the story that allows one to feel like a part of the world. It is quite amazing to see what attractions they have inspired around the world. Tokyo Disney has a Monsters Factory that put you in the exact factory. California Adventures is getting Cars Land that is 3 acres of the Cars world.

One area of the expo floor showcased what technologies are coming to Disney theme parks and attractions. I met Otto, the talking robot that interacts with the crowd completely based on his Artificial Intelligence. I also met a real sized Wall-E and Lucky the dinosaur. On display was a model of what Cars Land will look like as well as a model for the new Mansion in Disney Hong Kong.

D23 Expo

Vinyls were huge at Disney Expo. I bought six Vinylmation Mickeys and am now addicted. I want the whole set! I also bought the special D23 Vinyl Mickey that one can only get at the event. In the slideshow below you can see pictures of many unique vinyls that were on display and for purchase.

Speaking of Alice, I was then invited to a Tea Party. On display they had various hats and the fashion jewelry that was recently announced as part of the Alice in Wonderland Fashion line debuting next year. To be honest, the Mad Hatter freaked me out..but I guess that’s what he’s supposed to do.

I sat in on a talk with John Lasseter, chief creative director for a Q&A about Disney properties and where animation is going. First question out of the gate was about the recent acquisition of Marvel. Mr. Lasseter did not have anything to say about the acquisition or what we might expect to see in the future.

I spoke to another lady about planning a Disney fairytale wedding. They take care of everything but prepare to spend money! The cheapest package is a weekday wedding for around $17,000 and a more recent wedding was priced at $109,000. Definitely for the princesses that have some money to spend on their happy day.

My favorite part of the expo hall was the Art of Disney Princess exhibit. The art pictures are all in the slideshow and a book will be sold soon online and in stores. The fashion tops, scarfs and purses that were on display were so pretty! Those will actually be onsale in October at Vault 28 in Downtown Disney and Nordstroms. I recommend the Snow White tshirt. It’s beautiful.

A huge announcement made at D23 Expo was the announcement of the re-imagining of Star Tours 2.0 in 2011.

Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy will be released in the spring of 2010.

In addition to the abovementioned talent, Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy will be written by David Rosiak with Buz “Danger” Wallick serving as director of photography and Bill Philputt and Steve Barton co-producing.

Announced yesterday at the D23 Expo, Pirates of the Caribbean 4 now has a movie title: On Stranger Tides. On Stranger Tides is due for release in Summer of 2011.
