    Left4Dead 2 “Dude, Where’s My Thumb 2″ Contest

Last year’s contest must have been so successful that Valve has decided to use the photo contest again for this year’s advertising campaign for Left 4 Dead 2. Just like last year, Valve is asking gamers to take creative photos of themselves in front of one of the outdoor media placements in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Seattle, Miami, Phoenix, Dallas, Minneapolis, and the San Francisco Bay Area. The entries will be judged by Gabe Newell and the top 25 entries will win a free copy of Left 4 Dead (probably the second although the press release just says Left 4 Dead) and one overall winner will get a custom engraved L4D2 Xbox 360. “Last year’s out of home media campaign proved to be one of the most effective vehicles for helping land Left 4 Dead on 2008′s top 10 seller list in the North America,” said Doug Lombardi, vice

First Look: Left 4 Dead 2

Earlier in the year, after getting to play sneak peeks of Left 4 Dead 2 at PAX and the San Diego Comic Con, my snarky reaction to it was “it’s the same game as Left 4 Dead, hurr durr, look how nonchalant I am about it”. Well you know what? It’s not the same game, and curse my constant sardonic attitude! First of all, this game looks fraking sweet. Take the first installment, and add a mess of detail to EVERYTHING, like guns and characters. The demo took place mostly in the daylight, where you can obviously see clearer, which translates directly into way more blood. For gore hounds (like myself), this is a much appreciated addition. For those who don’t like drowning in blood but just like killing people without the mess, Valve has added a gore setting in the options screen. Cool. They also made the characters pretty

Halloween costume recommendations from the Gaming Angels

Halloween is my absolute favorite holiday of the year, and planning my costume tends to start about a year in advance! And I’m not alone as my fellow staffer Rachel enjoys it as well!  So if you’re stuck on what to be this year, or even looking to plan for next year we have put together some lists on some costumes! Rachel’s video game costume recommendations Alyx Vance (Half-Life) – Alyx was developed as a very identifiable character, and that comes across on the ease of her outfit. Grab some jeans and boots, which everyone should have. For her top, a simple grey sweatshirt with a black design on it works. Her jacket is a bit harder to find, but all you’d need is a dark brown heavy duty work jacket, accessorized with ductape on the right shoulder. Wear your hair back with a headband, throw on a necklace, and

Left 4 Dead 2 boycott is officially over

The controversy that showed the ire of Valve fanboys is now officially over. The boycott was originally called for Left 4 Dead 2 due to fanboy complaints that Valve was not supporting Left 4 Dead with DLC. “Effective Wednesday October 21st 2009 at 12:00 PM Eastern Standard Time, this group will be closed,” said revolution architect Walking_Target. “People have lost sight of why we’re here. The comments are always full of trolls, people bashing Valve and phishers. What is more, people are unwilling or unable to wait for Valve to follow through in any cohesive way.” Fellow man of the people Agent of Chaos added: “We have accomplished everything we can on our manifesto. We’ve been dealing with Valve ever since our group started, then we met them in-person and now we’re at the point of concluding our discussions. Our goal wasn’t to steer people away from L4D2, it was
