‘Kingdoms of Amalur’ and ‘Mass Effect 3′ share demo perks

Playing the demos for upcoming titles Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning and Mass Effect 3 will unlock special items as part of a cross-promotion deal surely orchestrated by EA, who is publishing both titles. The demo for Kingdoms of Amalur, available January 17, unlocks items for use in Mass Effect 3, and vice versa. “We are thrilled to have the opportunity to deliver this massive one-two punch with Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning and Mass Effect 3. We wanted to provide fans of the Mass Effect franchise with a unique set of rewards for diving into the expansive universe of Reckoning,” said Curt Schilling, Chairman and Founder of 38 Studios. Playing the Reckoning demo allows you to unlock two items for Mass Effect 3 inspired by the game: the Reckoner Knight Armor, and The Chakram Launcher weapon, the latter of which is only unlocked after completing the demo and watching the final

‘Mass Effect 3′ has pre-order bonuses, of course

Yay! Another game that will give you things for having faith in it and pre-ordering early! (What? That’s all pre-order bonuses really are…) This time, it’s Mass Effect 3. Everyone who pre-orders the game will receive the M55 Argus Assault Rifle. The rest of the items, however, are retailer-specific and will come in addition to the Argus: GameStop customers get the N7 Warfare Gear, including the N7 Valkyrie assault rifle. Ordering from Origin, EA’s proprietary digital distribution service, nets you the AT12 Raider shotgun. Here’s video of the items in action:

    Stack of Shame Resolutions

I usually make a couple of gaming resolutions every year, and there have only been two years where I actually fulfilled one or two of them. There’s generally the typical resolution to play what I have first before I buy something new, but that’s such a fool’s resolution, especially since I now review games. Really no sense in putting such an unrealistic resolution in my list this year. There’s also a resolution that I will finish one or two particular games by the end of the following year. It was thanks to such resolutions that I finished Kingdom Hearts 2 and Final Fantasy XIII. My must-finish resolution this year was Red Dead Redemption, but I never took the game out of the box. I got distracted with so many of the great titles that launched this year and I was introduced to Mass Effect. Why play a new game when I

PAX First Look: Mass Effect 3

It’s no secret that I’m a huge Mass Effect fan, and I partially blame my boyfriend and Bioware for this. So expectedly the Mass Effect 3 booth was one of my first stops at Pax! After being shown a great montage of what has happened in the previous two games, we were ushered into another room to get a briefing on what our mission was going to be. This was great since they had the room set up with a table that had a screen in it displaying key facts of the mission as EDI talks to you about it as well. After the briefing was when the fun really happened: I got to play a mission in Mass Effect 3! Now, admittedly I’ve been worried over various parts of the game. “Is it going to be like more of a shooter?” “What’s going on with this ‘multiplayer’ talk?” I’ve

Bioware wants your opinion on Bushoujo Liara Statue

I woke up this morning to see the Mass Effect page on Facebook asking what their fans think of Kotobukiya’s Bushoujo Liara Statue. The pictures look like prototypes. The feedback on the Facebook page has not been kind. Many are calling out the pose, boobs, and face are just not Liara. What are your thought? Kotobukiya is famous for making anime versions of characters. Their DC line of statues have run from cute to way too much boobage. It’s kindof their MO. Here is a picture of what the statue should look like in color from SDCC: What are your thoughts? Does it fit in with the character? Does it need to? Does it align with what the company makes? Would you buy it?

Combat takes center stage in the latest ‘Mass Effect 3′ trailer

What sort of combat will you be involved in during Mass Effect 3? This trailer makes it pretty clear that it’s more shooting. At the very least, BroShep is shooting things…and also setting things (okay, people) on fire. No FemShep? Even after we had to vote for her? Oh well. Take a look: Mass Effect 3 releases next March.

BioWare is letting you pick an official FemShep

Say hello to your new FemShep. That is, if Facebook users get their way. BioWare has just opened up a way to vote for the official female representation in the game. Once you “like” Mass Effect 2, you can look at this album and decide which of the female Shepards you like most. The winner will be the official FemShep portrayed in marketing materials. Right now, the blonde-haired, blue-eyed version you see here is in the lead. I’d almost hope for something a little different…or at least something that doesn’t look like Samus Aran with a new haircut. I’m personally a big fan of #4. Which one is your favorite?

    ‘Mass Effect 3′ delayed to Q1 2012

BioWare’s Mass Effect 3 won’t be seeing the light this holiday season after all. I mean, come on — like this wasn’t completely expected. How easy is it to stick to a projected release date when you decide the date a year in advance. You just knew something was going to come up. In this case, that something is “making sure Mass Effect 3 is the biggest, boldest and best game in the series, ensuring that it exceeds everyone’s expectations.” Well, according to the series’ Executive Producer, Casey Hudson. He also promised the game within the first three months of 2012 (that’s Q1, if you were wondering). Does this, like, totally ruin your holiday plans? I personally don’t have much of a stake in it since I have yet to experience enough of the series to make this a life-ruining announcement, but I’m sure that a few of you are

BioWare and FUNimation are working to bring you exactly what you wanted — A ‘Mass Effect’ anime film (You wanted that, right?)

BioWare and FUNimation are adapting a full-length anime feature film based on the Mass Effect franchise. Tokyo-based T.O Entertainment will act as co-producer, with BioWare’s Casey Hudson acting as executive producer with FUNimation’s CEO, Gen Fukunaga, and Director of Original Entertainment, Chris Moujaes. On the T.O Entertainment side, Takeichi Honda and Yui Shibata will also produce. “Over the last few years, we have revealed different pieces of the Mass Effect world through different media. Extending the story through an anime medium is another amazing opportunity for us,” said Casey Hudson, who serves Executive Producer for the Mass Effect series as well as this new venture. “Partnering with FUNimation ensures that we will bring this rich universe to life with the utmost quality and the same attention to detail that the Mass Effect games are known for.” The movie is already in production, with a scheduled release (both digitally and physically)
