Despite a few hiccups in the beginning, BioWare’s Mass Effect 2 has quickly reached blockbuster status. In the single week it’s been on sale (okay, actually less than that), it’s already sold two million copies. It’s also garnered 40 perfect reviews and has retained a 96 on Metacritic. How long will the hype last? So far, it seems entirely deserved. What do you readers think?

Metacritic has released its 2009 Game Platform Power Rankings charts and surprisingly the Playstation 3 has come out on top.

The Ranking charts are designed to pick the platform that has delivered the best quality of software over the last 12 months.

The Xbox 360 was the console with the highest number of positively reviewed games, 88 titles scoring 75 or higher. Not surprisingly, the Wii had the highest number of new titles (362).

The Playstation 3 was not to be outdone as it wins for console that has the overall highest quality. Naughty Dog’s Uncharted 2: Among Thieves was named as the single best-rated title.

Assassin’s Creed II is selling well. It has sold 1.6 million units worldwide and is a 32% growth from first week sales of the original.

While that doesn’t say anything to the quality of the game, GameSpot’s users have rated it 94% and has a 91% on Metacritic.
