Modern Warfare 2 still at top of charts

I’m not sure why this does surprise me, but Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is still on the top of the UK Game sales charts. No slow down in sales there. Assassin’s Creed II stays at number 2 while New Super Mario Bros. Wii holds the third position. FIFA 10 climbs back up to 4th place while Nintendo games Wii Fit Plus and Wii Sports Resort swap places. No really huge drops but Lego Indiana Jones 2: Adventure Continues moved up from 16th place to 12. Nintendo has the most titles on the chart with 5.

Call of Duty franchise reaches 55 Million in sales

By now we all know that Modern Warfare 2 has sold incredibly well, but NPD Group estimates have shown that the Call of Duty Series has amazing figures as well. The series has surpassed 55 million unit sales to date worldwide. That figure means that they have taken in $3 billion in retail sales. “Call Of Duty has become one of the greatest entertainment franchises of all time,” said Bobby Kotick, CEO of Activision Blizzard. “If you consider the number of hours our audiences are engaged in playing Call of Duty games, it is likely to be one of the most viewed of all entertainment experiences in modern history.”

Modern Warfare 2 keeps the top spot in UK Sales

Nintendo is very popular with UK Games and even with brand new titles on the top 20, none of them were powerful enough to take down the reign of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. The Infinity Ward title continues to hold onto the number one spot making us only guess at how much money it’s brought in to date. Assassin’s Creed II entered in the number 2 spot followed by New Super Mario Bros. Wii (3), Wii Sports Resort (4), and Wii Fit Plus (5). Zombie killing, Left 4 Dead 2 entered the countdown at number 7. The top publisher this week is Nintendo with 5 games, but EA is right behind them with 4.

Danish Group wants you to “Hit the Bitch”

Shocking people in a game seems to be where companies want to go. Much in the way of the Airport scene in Modern Warfare 2, this Dutch campaign is created to invoke an emotional response. But just like the Airport scene in MW2, it doesn’t make much sense. The Dutch game called, Hit the Bitch, is created by The NGO for Children exposed to Violence at Home. In the “game” players smack a female and watch the scale range from “pussy” to “100% gangster”. The swings translate to violence that you can see on the girl in the game. In the game, the female provokes you, using various words in Dutch. The game ends with the girl lying on the ground crying and bleeding and then calls the player an idiot for playing. While this did get us talking about the campaign, I can’t believe that a company against violence

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 sets all time sales records

Yes, we’re still talking MW2 on GamingAngels. The title is making all kinds of waves and today it’s the good kind… money. Modern Warfare 2 has shattered theatrical box office and video game sales for five-day worldwide sales. The new records for five days of sales is now $550 million according to initial Activision estimates. $550 million is huge. To give you some sort of idea on comparisons with other forms of entertainment, Activision sent over a list of items that they beat out: The largest reported five-day opening worldwide box office gross figures, held by Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince ($394 million) The largest reported five-day opening domestic box office gross figures, held by The Dark Knight ($203.8 million) The largest reported five-day worldwide video game sales record, previously held by Grand Theft Auto IV (6 million units, $500 million) The largest reported opening first-day domestic box office

Looks like War beats Soccer in the UK

There seems to be only one thing that can beat out soccer in the UK and it’s war. That’s right Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 took the number one spot in the UK sales charts. Not too surprising, since we got the first day sales back last week that were at $310 million. What’s unique is that Call of Duty fans must have wanted even more Call of Duty as Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare made it’s way onto the countdown in the 19th spot. Nintendo held it’s own with Wii Sports Report moving up to number 2. FIFA 10 went down to number 3 and the other soccer game…Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 is at 11 while Football Manager 2010 is at 12. Quite a drop. Dragon Age: Origins also had a huge fall from 5 to 13. Nintendo barely holds onto the top spot with 4 games

Fox News already discussing Modern Warfare 2

Fox News with their “Fair and Balanced Reporting” already had a segment on this morning regarding Modern Warfare 2. Of course the only part of the game they discussed was the part where the gamer plays a terrorist. Special guests that were on the show were Jon Christensen of Slash Gamer and Jim Steyer, CEO of Common Sense Media. In the show, Jon and Jim go back and forth with the Fox hosts completely ignoring the fact that it’s a Mature game not intended for gamers under 17 saying: “You bring a violent game into a house with an 8 year old, nothing to stop that kid from playing it and becoming a terrorist…on a video game.” A bit tame for Fox News, but not surprising that they were on it so fast. Poor Jon Christensen who appears to have given up hope by the end.
