    Guest Review: Gilgamesh

DVD Release Date: 22/05/2007 Original Run: 02/10/2003 – 18/02/2004 Languages: English, Japanese Genre: Action, Drama, Fantasy, Science Fiction, Horror Subtitles: English Number of Discs: 7 Runtime: 650.0 mins Rating: TV-14 Available from RightStuf I chose to write my first anime review for GamingAngels on an anime series released on DVD back in 2007. I wanted to pick an anime that was easily accessible to me as well as most people out there, which led me to my Netflix queue. That’s how I stumbled across the Gilgamesh series! (By the way, do YOU have Netflix? If you’re an anime fan and you’re on a tight budget, like me, you should definitely look it up. It gives you access to a decent anime collection for cheap. Unfortunately, only a few can be watched instantly at the moment, like…. Gilgamesh!) The story of this anime might seem like the usual post-apocalyptic type at

Netflix Watch Instantly Officially Hits the Wii

Even though people have been getting their Netflix discs in the mail for the Wii for a couple of weeks now, Nintendo and Netflix have just now announced that instant streaming of movies and TV episodes is available for the console. Well, “fully available.” (Their words.) Streaming from the Wii console (as well as streaming from any other console) is free to Netflix users on plans starting from $8.99 a month and up. All you need is the console, a broadband Internet connection, and the instant streaming disc Netflix provides (for free, at that). A press release from the two companies this morning stated that this partnership dramatically increases the reach of streaming content provided by Netflix, which is really quite true. How many people aren’t willing to watch a whole movie at their computers, but don’t have a PS3 or 360? Probably a lot of them. But a big

Guest Article: On Earthdawn Character Generation & Regeneration

In the realm of classic medieval fantasy tabletop RPGs, Earthdawn is considered a second generation game, having come not long after a second edition of Dungeons and Dragons was released. It has all the familiar races – Human, Elf, Troll, Dwarf, Ork – and a few most haven’t seen before – the T’skrang, a lizard-like race, the Obsidimen, who are the rock-people, and the Windlings, who are a bit like ADD-addled Kinder in nature, and stand only about 18 inches high and have wings. My first campaign was Earthdawn, in which I played a T’skrang archer, the elfiest T’skrang you’d ever meet – because I was teased that every girl’s first character is an elf. To avoid that stereotype, which is a bit silly, I admit, I picked the T’skrang, the least conventionally attractive (besides the Ork) of the lot. And I was timid during my first campaign, because all

Warner’s New Redbox/Netflix Rental Policies Bound to Bring Out the Pirates

Today, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment announced a multi-year distribution agreement with Redbox that will require Warner new-release DVD and Blu-Ray titles to only become available 28 days after official release. (Netflix has agreed to the same terms.) What does that mean for you, the eager DVD renter-to-be? Well, as far as Redbox goes, you’re going to need to be a lot faster when attempting to obtain Warner titles on the first day of availability (well, as long as your local Redbox has fairly heavy traffic). Netflix users need to decide what to rent and put it on their list a lot earlier — the first two releases to fall under the new rule, The Invention of Lying and Whiteout, currently have a longer-than-usual wait list. (Netflix did actually get something out of the deal — the ability to stream more Warner titles.) It also means that piracy of Warner titles

Nielsen reports on paying for content online

Nielsen recently did a study where they asked 27,000 people across 52 countries if they would pay for content online, and got a resounding “maybe.” They did break down the survey into more specific areas like movies, games, music, news and radio to name a few, and while the results to some may be surprising it’s not to me. The top three categories that more people said they’d pay for wound up being Theatrical Movies, Music and Games. Not surprising with services like Netflix, iTunes and online games and networks like Steam. Netflix lets you rent and stream movies online or through your Xbox or PS3 and has made many people turn away from the more traditional storefront for renting movies. Apple’s iTunes revolutionized the way people got their music and the way they developed the pricing is probably one of the big reasons. I like being able to have

Netflix is confirmed for Nintendo Wii this Spring

It has been speculated for quite some time that Netflix would be bringing their service to the Nintendo Wii. New York Times is reporting that Netflix is coming to the Nintendo Wii. Wii owners with a broadband Internet connection and want to pay $9-a-month subscription to Netflix’s DVD-by-mail service will be able to use the online service at no additional cost. Wii owners will have to use a disc to use the service, but that’s not a huge inconvenience. Reggie Fils-Aime said, “From Day 1, we always had other capabilities within the console,” adding that bringing Netflix to the console “is a continuation of an effort to bring more and more entertainment to consumers who interact with the Wii.” “Our growth in the last two years has been propelled in large part by our investments in streaming content and in the streaming platform,” said Reed Hastings, Netflix’s chief executive. “When

Netflix is coming to the Playstation 3

Netflix has confirmed that the rental service is going to be on the Playstation 3 in North America some time in November. Netflix has been available to Xbox 360 users for streaming. The PS3 service will cost $8.99 a month. Instant watching is available with an unlimited Netflix membership for no additional fee. While it’s free, you will need to reserve a instant streaming disc that can be ordered here. “The PS3 has always been about more than just gaming, and it will soon be the only platform in the industry to offer consumers such a variety of convenient options for enjoying movies and TV shows,” SCEA president and CEO Jack Tretton stated. “Whether you want to watch content on Blu-ray disc and DVD, download it from the PlayStation Network’s video delivery service, or stream videos instantly from Netflix, the PS3 system is the only solution that offers it all.”

Netflix tells Xbox 360 users they’re sorry

Xbox 360 users that have used Netflix streaming ability lately may have noticed some problems watching movies or TV shows. Netflix sent out the attached apology giving users a 2% credit. “We are sorry for the inconvenience this may have caused. If you were unable to instantly watch a movie or TV episode last night via your Xbox, click on this account specific link in the next 7 days to apply your 2% credit on your next billing statement for the price of your 3 DVDs out at-a-time (Unlimited) plan. Credit can only be applied once.” It appears all Netflix/Xbox 360 users will get this email, so check your email inbox. This is definitely one of the best company responses I’ve seen in awhile.
