We don’t generally feature Virtual Console items as news, but this one is kindof a big deal. To celebrate it’s 20th Anniversary, Majesco Entertainment is now releasing A Boy and his Blob: Trouble on Blobolonia for the Virtual Console. The classic NES game is now 20 years old. While the new A Boy and his Blob just came out, gamers can now see where it all started.

Taking place in 2001 (the future from its original release), the game’s touching storyline begins when an Evil Emperor imprisons the inhabitants of Blobolonia. One brave soul by the name of Blob, full name Blobert, escapes his home planet looking for help. He crash-lands on Earth only to find a young boy. Luckily, when the Boy feeds Blobert flavored jellybeans, the blob transforms into various helpful shapes such as the Licorice Ladder, Fruit-Punch Hole and Hummingbird Honey. Using the magical candy and teamwork, the duo sets out to free Blobolonia and vanquish the Evil Emperor as they traverse through the head-scratching, side-scrolling puzzle action that has become legend in the annals of videogame history.

A Boy and his Blob: Trouble on Blobolonia is rated E for Everyone and available for 500 Wii Points.

Majesco Entertainment has declared October to be “Blob Month” because of the release of A Boy and his Blog for the Wii. The sequel comes out two decades since the original NES game. Every week leading up to the release, Majesco will be revealing video, art and screenshots to get you excited.

A long long time ago, in a country that is cold & disgusting to live in for about 8 months every year, I was born. I had a grade 5 reading level by the time I started grade two, played my first computer game (Oregon Trail) on the green screened Apples in my elementary school library, and can thankfully say that even though I have had several opportunities to, I have never (yet) thrown a controller into a TV or wall.

We had an Atari 2600 when I was a kid. My first game console. I played Q-Bert, Galaga and Dark Chambers religiously. I don’t remember what ever happened to it….. From there I played systems like the NES, SNES and Genesis at my cousins’ place. We did get a couple of the original GameBoys when I was younger as well. I loved Tetris and Wario.

Then there was a long dark tea time for my soul, one that did not include video games. But around 2000 I came back, having a great time with the PS2 and Xbox when they launched. Finished my first Final Fantasy game (9, which is still my favourite to this day) and fell in love with the Dreamcast. Poor little guy barely had a chance!

I met Trina through Sony’s Gamer Advisory Panel, a glorified focus group for the electronics giant. We were some of the very few active females in the panel at the time. I got to crash with her for a couple nights after the first E4All event in Los Angeles. During the second (and final) E4All event, Trina and Elizabeth spoke to me about joining GamingAngels.

I have some very grandiose plans and daydreams about the future of GamingAngels, and I will make them happen. My biggest goal for the next year is to impress upon and show gaming companies and advertisers that they are missing a huge opportunity by continuing to focus so much on the male market. This community is proof that women love games and gadgets just as much as we love books and other media formats. All we ask is to be seen as equals in this field and be treated with more respect than we are given. We are a force to be reckoned with.

Majesco released the final trailer for a boy and his blob which will be released on October 13 for the Nintendo Wii. It’s a reimagining of the original title from the NES that we’ve probably all played.

The trailer explains how large the game is with 40 new levels, hidden treasures and unlockable bonus content. Enjoy the trailer!

Every once in a while I get the hankering to dig through boxes, dust off my old super Nintendo, pop the cartridges in and settle into a retro comma.  Now I can settle me retro craving online without the diggin!
