Guest Article: The Post PAX Awards
The Post-PAX Awards This year, from September 4-6, I attended my very first Penny Arcade Expo up in Seattle. I didn’t really know what to expect, so I did my research, looked up videos, read articles about the past years’ conventions, but I still was like, “oh my god, there are gonna be 60,000 other nerds there, this is going to be a MADHOUSE.” Of course, because I’m prescient (superpowers, yo), I was right, and it was a madhouse, but it was also AWESOME. Basically, for those of you who have never been or don’t care about PAX but are still reading this, the Penny Arcade Expo is a ridiculous video game convention, where companies bring their sweet new stuff to show it off, and gamers get super psyched about it and get free t-shirts and posters and buttons and various other swag. It’s a great opportunity for game developers

PAX 2009 pulls in 60,750 attendees
Penny Arcade Expo’s Robert Khoo has announced the final numbers at PAX 2009 and it’s pretty large. PAX tickets sold out early and in the end, 60,750 people attended. Hopefully a very small portion of those took home a swag that no one wanted, swine flu. Because it sold out this year, if you are anticipating attending PAX East in March 2010, you may want to consider getting your tickets now.

Penny Arcade Expo 2009 Overview
The Great! There are rumors of this year’s PAX reaching 60,000+ nerds and nerdettes in attendance this year, which is a far cry from the 3,300 at the first PAX. Bethesda has a new game coming out! To anyone who showed up last year, you’ll remember the gigantic spectacle that was Fallout 3. Unfortunately, Brink is still far from release so there wasn’t anything near that grand this year (maybe next year?). Although a word for developers: if you want people to see your game and be interested in it, don’t surround the demo area in frosted glass that people are unable to look through. Bioshock had it’s own little stage area set up… These clues must mean something, but my PAX Pox-riddled brain can’t seem to put the pieces together. However, anyone who has followed the Bioshock 2 story thus far will truly appreciate what they’ve done here. The

PAX is held September 4-6 at the Washington State Convention and Trade Center. There will be almost 100 exhibitors there including, Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo, Ubisoft, Blizzard and Wizards of the Coast. Some of the panels are the first live demonstration of Star Wars: The Old Repbulic, demos of Ubisoft’s anticipated titles, PAX 10 independent game showcase, sponsored parties, and two nights of nerdcore concerts. “PAX IS SO GREAT,” said Robert Khoo of Penny Arcade. “SO GREAT.” Yeah soooo great. Actually it really is. It was my favorite con of the year last year and I would give anything to be able to go this year. We’ll have quite a few staff there this year, so make sure you say
