Rockstar announces Game of the Year Edition for ‘Red Dead Redemption’

This October, if you’ve not yet played Red Dead Redemption, you’ll get a chance to catch up completely, thanks to the release of a Game of the Year Edition on October 11 in North America (and October 14 internationally). The game apparently racked up over 160 Game of the Year awards from various outlets. “We wanted to create a world that captured the spirit of the Western,” said Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games. “We are thrilled that Red Dead Redemption’s vision of the West resonated with so many people.” This release includes the retail game and all downloadable content ever released for multiplayer and single play modes. This release also includes Solomon’s Folly and its associated challenges for Xbox 360 owners. Follow

Final ‘Red Dead Redemption’ DLC pack features familiar faces

As a sort of “thanks” to everyone still playing Red Dead Redemption multiplayer (because yeah, that’s still kinda popular — who knew?) a special free DLC pack is on the way this September. The “Myths and Mavericks” bonus pack will add new fan-favorite characters for multiplayer use, as well as new locations for Deathmatch, Grab the Bag, Gang matches, and additional online modes. A future title update will also fix the Undead Overrun settings, due to popular demand. Follow

At last night’s Game Developers Choice Awards at GDC in San Francisco, Rockstar San Diego’s Red Dead Redemption was clearly the big winner, bringing home four awards, including Game of the Year. Sandbox title Minecraft was also quite successful, taking home three awards during the GDCA. Earlier in the day, Minecraft also won the grand prize at the Independent Games Festival Awards, making it the first title recognized by both awards committees during the same year. Special awards were also presented to Peter Molyneux, Tim Brengle and Ian McKenzie and Yu Suzuki. A full list of award recipients is below. “Red Dead Redemption” wins big at IAAs, “Mass Effect 2″ takes home the big prize

At last night’s 14th Annual Interactive Achievement Awards in Las Vegas, Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption managed to ride off with five awards. However, the Game of the Year wasn’t the sandbox Western – that went to Bioware’s Mass Effect 2. Casual craze Angry Birds flew home with the Casual Game of the Year award. Also, “The Doctors” behind Bioware, Dr. Ray Muzyka and Dr. Greg Zeschuk, were inducted into the Hall of Fame, with Bing Gordon making it home with a Lifetime Achievement award. I’ll stop with the running commentary and just give you a list to pore over. Red Dead Redemption title update hits consoles today

If you’ve been waiting to play Red Dead Redemption because you heard it was buggy, it might be time to take another look. Rockstar’s pushed an update through that fixes a few problems gamers have had with the title. (And if that’s not enough, it’s my best game of the year, so that should be enough to get you to the register, box in hand.) I’m not that elegant when it comes to changing lists to make them original, so here’s the text from Rockstar’s post. Red Dead Redemption: The game no longer reboots when switching from MP to SP, or from regular SP to MP. Going to the main menu from any mode or leaving Undead Nightmare single player mode will still reboot (except Japan). Lasso will now retract properly when thrown while riding fast on a horse. Removed display message saying “This horse is now your trusty steed”

In case you care: My top 13 games of 2010, in no particular order

So we’ve done Holiday Guides for games, but those are a collaborative effort. Now that it’s (pretty much) too late to go get any more presents and you don’t need a Holiday Guide anymore, it’s time for a “best of” compilation! Except it’s all by me, so you might not care. Yeah, that’s the catch. How this goes down: This is my list. I’ll put a game on it (really, just whatever I think of, there’s no order here at all), tell you why I thought it was one of the best of the year, and it’s up to you to decide whether or not you actually care about what I say. Cool, right? Except that’s like the entire rest of the Internet, so you should totally be used to that. Without further ado, this is the part where I talk about how 2010 was such an awesome year for

Review – Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare

Rating: M (for Mature) Genre: Action Adventure Players: Single & Multiplayer Publisher: Rockstar Games Developer: Rockstar San Diego Release Date: October 26, 2010 BUY Red Dead Redemption is one heck of a great game and was quite a hit when it came out. I’m personally still working on my run through of the game, but I had to pause from that when the Undead Nightmare DLC came out for the game. Since I first heard that Rockstar was releasing this DLC I was intersted and it was only as more and more info was released that I became really excited for it. I mean come on, who doesn’t think riding around killing zombies in the old west is awesome? The storyline itself is seperate from the campaign so you can play both of them separately (or take some time off from the main campaign like I did). The game starts

    Video Games Holiday Guide

It’s all been leading up to this moment, all of the Holiday Guides we’ve been posting have been leading up to this guide: the one where we tell you about all the video games we’re recommending for this holiday season. I asked our entire staff to send me their recommendations and then I compiled them all together to provide to you, our loyal readers. There’s plenty of good ideas here and I’m sure you’ll be able to find something that someone on your list would like. (If not, don’t forget to get yourself something nice for the holidays too!) Xbox 360 (and Xbox Live) Plants Vs Zombies was on our Casual Game Guide for 2009, the limited edition for the PC was on this year’s guide, and we like it so much we’re recommending it one last time. This popular game came to Xbox Live just a few months ago

    Undead Nightmare Just Got Biblical

When I was at NYCC and got to check out Undead Nightmare I was told that we would be able to ride undead horses, but sadly those were not available in what I got to play. But now we know that these are not just any undead horses, these are the Four Horses of the Apocalypse. Pestilence, Famine, Death, and War will be in the game and ride-able, if you can tame them that is. Each horse also has it’s own special ability that will correspond with it’s name. Death causes zombies to explode, Famine has everlasting stamina, Pestilence has a high pain threshold, and War lights things on fire. To me the news about this DLC just keeps getting better and better. Hopefully it will be available for us to snatch up soon! In the meantime check out the screen caps of each horse below.
