Final ‘Red Dead Redemption’ DLC pack features familiar faces

As a sort of “thanks” to everyone still playing Red Dead Redemption multiplayer (because yeah, that’s still kinda popular — who knew?) a special free DLC pack is on the way this September. The “Myths and Mavericks” bonus pack will add new fan-favorite characters for multiplayer use, as well as new locations for Deathmatch, Grab the Bag, Gang matches, and additional online modes. A future title update will also fix the Undead Overrun settings, due to popular demand.

Mary Jane is coming to ‘L.A. Noire’ on July 12

Sweet lady Mary Jane is the focus of L.A. Noire‘s next downloadable case, “Reefer Madness,” obviously for the Vice desk. If that’s not so obvious, think green, but not necessarily organic. Or grass. If you don’t get it yet…it’s all about marijuana, if the title’s to be believed. Here’s a description via Rockstar: “When a tip from an informant leads Detective Cole Phelps and his Vice desk partner Roy Earle to a local L.A. drug dealer, a deadly shootout ensues and they suddenly find themselves in the throes of one of the city’s biggest narcotics rings.” “Reefer Madness” releases July 12 on PS3 and 360, for $3.99 and 320 MS Points, respectively. Watch the trailer: Nice to see where some of the screenshots we have actually came from…

‘L.A. Noire’ coming to PC this fall

Rockstar Games announced yesterday morning that their latest title, L.A. Noire, is coming to PC this fall. The PC version was developed by Rockstar Leeds, who claim that a wide range of PCs will be able to run it. So, hey, don’t throw out your two-year-old box. It might just work. “L.A. Noire is a new type of game that makes players see through a detective’s eyes in 1940s Los Angeles,” said Sam Houser, founder of Rockstar Games. “Its unique blend of story, action and crime solving will be perfect to play on PC.” MotionScan technology will still be present in this version (even thinking that it wouldn’t is just wrong), and you’ll be able to fully customize your keyboard mapping and also be able to use a gamepad. The PC version will also include 3D support. (Sigh.) If you want to hear our thoughts on the title and you

New Arson case coming to ‘L.A. Noire’ on Tuesday

This one is going to start with a bang for sure. “Nicholson Electroplating,” the latest addition to Rockstar’s L.A. Noire, will focus on a case at the Arson desk. And it starts with an explosion. Of course, it’s never really that simple, is it? Cole and Biggs will investigate whether or not this was just a simple accident…or something a lot more sinister. This is yet another case based on real-life events in 1947. To be worth that $3.99/320 MS Points, I’m going to bet on that “sinister” option. (It’s included if you’ve bought the Rockstar Pass.) Here’s a trailer:

‘L.A. Noire’ to offer Rockstar Pass to help you catch up on DLC

Rockstar Games recently announced the DLC plans for the recently-released L.A. Noire. Several downloadable cases, collectibles and challenges will become available over the next few months. You can purchase the L.A. Noire Rockstar Pass right now, which will give you access to all seven pieces of DLC (four cases, two suits and a collectible challenge). Right now, this has a special price, too: 800 MS Points, or $10. That’s 50% off what the price would be if you bought them all individually. This deal ends June 14, but the pricing only goes up to $12.00, so it’s still a discount. Every pre-order DLC option is also available now (and when the PlayStation Store is back up) — these are the Sharpshooter and Broderick suits ($2.00/160 MS Points and $1.00/80 MS Points, respectively) as well as “The Naked City” Vice case and the “A Slip of the Tongue” Traffic case ($4.00/320

    A Special Podcast: L.A. Noire

Friday night, I sat down with fellow GamingAngels ladies: Tiffany, Geek Woman and Xalaga and the four of us talked about all things L.A. Noire.  We had varied ideas and opinions about a lot of parts of the game, and wanted to bring something a little different to you than a regular review (which we also have). It’s long, but we split our discussion in two parts.  First, the four of us talk about the details of the game, the gameplay, the graphics, controls and music as well as the  historical aspects of the game.  In the Second part of the podcast, it’s just Tiffany and I as we talk the more spoilery parts of the game, the cases we liked (or didn’t) and how the game ends. This is something we haven’t done here at GamingAngels before, we hope you give it a listen and enjoy. This podcast is

    Review: ‘L.A. Noire’ (PS3)

Rating: M Players: 1 Genre: Action-Adventure Publisher: Rockstar Games Developer: Team Bondi/Rockstar Games Release Date: May 17, 2011 BUY You might expect L.A. Noire to play best when your main tool is a controller. That’s a fine assumption, given that the title was released for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and both of those consoles require a controller most of the time. You need that controller to get you around the titular city in-game. But really, you don’t play L.A. Noire with your hands — you play it with your senses. More on that later, I promise. L.A. Noire takes place in 1947, and you’re Cole Phelps, a WWII veteran-turned-L.A. cop. Cole is eventually promoted from his role as a uniform beat cop (a few cases that serve only as a tutorial) to full-fledged police desks: Traffic, Homicide, Ad Vice and Arson, in that order. Cole himself is fairly bland,

Rockstar announces two ‘L.A. Noire’ soundtracks

Yesterday, Rockstar Games announced that there will be two L.A. Noire soundtracks: The Official Soundtrack and L.A. Noire: Remixed. The remix album features six jazz standards from the soundtrack remixed by DJs. The tracklisting for that is below. The official soundtrack features selections from the score, which was inspired by 1940s films. It also features modern versions of the “torch songs” of the period, written by Stephen Coates with guest vocals from Claudia Brucken. Additional music was composed by Woody Jackson, who worked with Bill Elm on the Red Dead Redemption score. In-game, you’ll also hear over 30 classic jazz tracks featuring the work of the greats, like Billie Holiday and Dizzy Gillespie (both childhood favorites of mine — I know, I’m weird). Both soundtracks will release on iTunes on May 17.   L.A. Noire: Remixed Tracklist 1. Elle Fitzgerald & Louis Jordan – “Stone Cold Dead in the Market”

Rockstar reveals ‘L.A. Noire’ Social Club details

I don’t know if you joined Rockstar’s Social Club for Red Dead Redemption, but it was pretty cool. They’re bringing that functionality to this May’s L.A. Noire. You get a few neat features if you sign up for it — a new suit and the ability to ask the community which responses they’d use in certain situations, for one. Social Club members also get access to the 100% completion map, which lets you know exactly what you need to do to achieve that coveted goal. You’ll also be able to track case progress as well as achievement progress on the Internet. Pretty cool — I know I’ll be signing up. Check out the full list of perks here.

‘L.A. Noire’ featurette on ‘Rising Through the Ranks’

So you may know that as L.A. Noire’s main character, Cole Phelps, you’ll be solving an awful lot of police cases. You might even know that you’ll have a colleague with you on each mission. What you might not know is that the colleague will correspond to your current department, whether that be arson, vice, or even traffic. Here’s a video about the missions you’ll take in each department as well as the random cases you can take. L.A. Noire releases May 17 on PS3 and 360.
