Francois Chang wants to keep kids off the street—video games will help him do that.

Outbreak Youth will host its 4th annual video game fundraising event on Feb. 4. The event has raised the attention of big name video game companies like SEGA and Konami, which are now sponsoring the event.

“We want to teach them the love of Jesus, of course, but we want to show them love too. What better way than to continue offering them something that they enjoy and that will keep them off the streets,” said Chang, the youth director at the church.

Outbreak Youth’s Video Game Day 2012, will be held at 87-47 111th St., Richmond Hill, N.Y. Doors open at 10 a.m. and cost $5.

The event is going to include Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition and Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 tournaments. If people don’t want to participate in the tournaments, games will be stationed around for pure enjoyment.

Modern Warfare 3 is two vs. two double elimination battle, while Super Street Fighter IV and Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 will be one vs. one, single elimination. However, the fighting games will be best out of three matches, which give a lot of chances to win each round.

Last year the organization raised $600, and this year’s goal is to exceed that number. In addition to the cost of the event, raffle tickets will be sold to help meet their goal. The money is used for other events Outbreak Youth plans.

SEGA officially announced the second episode of Sonic the Hedgehog 4 today, which will be released sometime during the 2012 that is rapidly speeding toward us (much like Sonic himself). In addition to Microsoft and Sony’s online stores, Episode II will come to Apple’s App Store, the Android Market and Windows Phone 7′s iteration of Xbox LIVE.

The physics engine has been reworked from the ground up, and new character animations have been added. Speaking of things that are new — Tails is making an appearance (finally).

“After twenty years in action, it’s clear that Sonic hasn’t slowed down one bit,” said Haruki Satomi, Senior Vice President of Digital Business at SEGA of America. “The first entry in the Sonic 4 saga was a major success. We’ve listened to the fans and been hard at work making sure we recapture that same spirit of fun in Episode II. We hope the fans will enjoy it.”

Check out the teaser trailer here:

SEGA is building something else for people to play with — a playground in East Oakland inspired by Sonic the Hedgehog. The effort is made possible through a partnership with KaBOOM! and Youth UpRising.

Construction will take place October 28, and both SEGA volunteers and members of the local community will take part. In fact, the kids who will use the playground are the ones designing it.

“SEGA is very excited to partner with KaBOOM! to bring an amazing and unique new play-space to the kids of Youth UpRising and East Oakland,” says Marcella Churchill, Director of Marketing at SEGA of America. “There could not be a better way to celebrate Sonic the Hedgehog’s 20th Anniversary than to continue his message of energy, fun and play among the community with this playground and partnership.”

The playground will open on the launch date for Sonic Generations, November 1. Convenient!

I think one word for it is “pretty cool.” That and being able to run fast are pretty much Sonic’s thing in life. It’s what he’s best at, it’s what he does. And his shoes are always awesome. Take a look:

You play as Raphael, an art thief with a heart of gold — he returns the art mere days later. Nope, he doesn’t steal rhythm. The titles lies in that sense. You’ll be discovering what happened to his father — as he seems to have disappeared. How do you do this? Duh, rhythm games. You’ll tap to the beat and even use the 3DS gyroscope to get Raphael through the city.

Get your first look in this trailer:

Shinobi, which was originally expected in September, is moving all the way to a November 15 release. CRUSH3D will be released next year, on February 21.

Harsh news for 3DS owners, especially after Mega Man Legends 3‘s cancellation yesterday. This may be due to the Nintendo 3DS’ adoption rate, but of course none of these companies would ever just come out and say that, so we’ll never be really sure.

So, here’s a trailer that shows them off. Spoiler alert: There are several kinds of guns that are exactly like the guns in every generic shooter title. Except these are set to dramatic music. Also, robots.
