Before you can make a new game, you’ve usually got to make a pitch to people (unless they force you into it, but that’s another thing entirely). Tim Schafer is no different.

Except, perhaps, for the “people” part.

Tim Schafer…had to pitch his Once Upon a Monster…to Cookie Monster. Cookie Monster is clearly very “meh” about zombies. Check out the cuteness below.

When you’re responsible for games as adorable as Costume Quest, why not take on the quintessential children’s television franchise Sesame Street? I can’t think of a reason, and I’m betting Double Fine can’t, either – so they are.

Sesame Street: Once Upon a Monster will be a Kinect-exclusive title for Xbox 360. Our tiniest gamers will get to explore what’s being called a “living storybook” and solve puzzles by jumping and dancing. (Aww.) The press release also said that you can solve puzzles by flying, but I don’t think that’s as possible or as adorable as dancing. Also, it might cause a ruckus.

“We are excited to collaborate in the development of this game where families can play together, be physically active, and parents have the opportunity to foster the social and emotional development of their children,” said Rosemarie Truglio, Vice President of Education & Research at Sesame Workshop.

Sesame Street: Once Upon a Monster will be available Fall 2011.

Warner Bros. is announcing a multi-year exclusive agreement with Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit organization behind Sesame Street. Under this agreement, Warner Bros. has the right to create and publish videogame titles worldwide based on Sesame Street.

“Our worldwide partnership with Sesame Workshop marks an exciting step toward the future of preschool console games, mixing education and fun with the incredible Sesame Street brand,” said Martin Tremblay, President, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. “We look forward to building an accessible educational franchise with the Sesame Street games, offering parents and children new ways to learn and play together with their favorite characters from the show.”

Sesame Workshop and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Group’s have committed to bringing new preschool content to consumers to include the release of upcoming DVD titles in 2010. The worldwide videogame partnership is in addition to the Sesame Workshop and Warner Home Video multi-year, exclusive home entertainment distribution deal for the Sesame Street library, new content, EST and Transactional VOD for distribution in the United States and Canada.

“With Warner Bros.’ capability to create and publish videogames and its ability to distribute and market home videos, together, we are able to deliver the ultimate Sesame Street experience for families,” said Gary E. Knell, Sesame Workshop President and CEO. “We are incredibly pleased with this partnership in creating innovative interactive content to be enjoyed across media platforms.”

The games will offer kids both educational and entertaining content, to get preschoolers playing, laughing and learning with their favorite Sesame Street characters. Aligned with the standards of Sesame Workshop, the games will provide engaging learning experiences developed around particular types of curriculum.

You would think after all of these years that somebody would have told all of the little cherubs out there where Sesame Street is, right? But where would be the fun in that?

I would assume that, like myself, almost everyone grew up watching Sesame Street. Now you can revisit your childhood, and your own little cherubs can join you too!

While this edition is dated pre-me (I was born in ’82), it still has segments that I remember seeing as a kid such as little John-John and one of the monsters. There were also appearances by some celebrities too – although I only knew Lily Tomlin (who played Edith), Henry Winkler and Ron Howard. Who knew Richie Cunningham didn’t know how to brush his teeth?

An afternoon or two could be spent going over all of the Sesame Street goodies, but I would say at least hire it to show your kids if you don’t know whether to buy it. Anyway, it’s still got its “Old School” charm!
