Is This ESPN, or is 2K Baseball 2010 Looking Really Good?

2K Sports has done a good thing in 2K Baseball 2010 that helps it finally catch up with other sports games — implemented a “My Player” mode. Much like the career modes in other sports games, this allows you to create a player and take him through his career from the minors to the majors.

I’ll admit to being a bit of a baseball fanatic from time to time. And this mode encompasses what I did for years — follow a single player wherever he went. Granted, your player won’t have to spend ages in the Minor Leagues to get called up, as 2K’s gone with the much better choice of completing a certain number of Minor League games before moving on to the Majors. It fits into the mantra of “easy to play, hard to master” — Before you make it to the Majors, you have to learn to do certain things.

Your player is 100% in your hands from conception (ew, not that one) to Hall of Fame recognition. You pick his position, his sunglasses, heck, probably even his eyebrows. You start at the Amateur Draft and move forward from there.

Galactic Bowling Now Available

Perpetual FX Creative has released Galactic Bowling for the iPhone/ iPod Touch. This sci-fi bowling game promises an exhilarating sports game with stunning detailed graphics.

“Bringing our game to the highly popular iPhone and iPod touch was an obvious next step in the evolution of the Galactic Bowling franchise,” said Perpetual FX Creative CEO Kyle Entsminger. “With the success we have had with the PC version and given the addictive nature of the game, we’re confident that mobile gaming fans worldwide will truly love Galactic Bowling. Along with the launch of this title, we look forward to expanding further into the mobile games marketplace with future titles.”

Galactic Bowling features a single player campaign mode with challenging environments and amazing cinematics. With three distinctive play modes (solo, regular and battle) and an intuitive control scheme that is easy enough for casual players but also has advanced features for experienced gamers.

Galactic Bowling is now available from the Apps Store for $4.99.

First Look: National Card Hockey League

So, National Card Hockey League is a card game, sort of like the old “War” card game we’ve all played at some point or another. However, this version of the game, takes another twist by letting you choose a NHL team to represent and game to play against. Game play is in quarters, just like a hockey game, and you play your cards (players) using the player’s jersey number to match cards placed by your opponent. If you’re a fan of quick card games to play online, or games that incorporate hockey themes, this will definitely be one to keep an eye out for Since the game is still in development, there were several things that I saw that may be improved before you get to see the game. The graphics are still unpolished, but I’ve been told that when a final product is released that the graphics will match the teams that you choose – for example, if you were to choose the Toronto Maple Leafs as your team, the background the game is played on would match the Air Cananda Center where the team actually plays. Also, upon full development, there will be the ability to customize your game as you go – creating your own team, or switching players to be part of your deck. Because the game play is so like that old “War” game play – where cards are played to try and create matches to score points, I’m pretty interested to hear that they’re also working on building game play between 2 or 4 players.

I’ll be honest and say that while I might enjoy a good hockey game from time to time, I’m not a huge fan. But, I’m always up for a good game that I can play on my phone, or PC that gives me a quick opportunity to game when I don’t have a lot of time. I think a game like National Card Hockey League can definitely be one of those types of games, even if you’re not into hockey or sports in general. And if you’re the competitive type, keep an eye out for the different customizations the game will provide to create new challenges for yourself, or you and a friend.

National Card Hockey League is not currently available to the public, but you can keep a watch for it {here}. I’ve been told by the developer that they’re also looking into a Soccer version of the game, if that’s your thing.
