‘Star Wars: The Old Republic’ supply to be limited by EA
For a change, if you’re not on the bandwagon for an MMO early on, you might have to wait to play. EA announced at a Gamescom press conference yesterday that they’ll be limiting the number of copies of Star Wars: The Old Republic available at launch. Why do this? Well, at launch, many MMOs experience server crashes and really long queues to even enter the game you’re paying for monthly. EA is trying to avoid this — to give a great experience to a lot of people instead of selling copies so quickly that everything’s overloaded on Day One. As of now, EA hasn’t said exactly which number they’re hitting before shutting off the sales, but they know what it is and it applies to both retail and digital copies. (Via Game Informer, since it’s not like we’re in Germany or anything.)

Star Wars inspired art at Hold Up Art
It’s hard to deny the impact that Star Wars has in Pop Culture. The 1977 film, and all the following films in the franchise have allowed generations of people to enjoy and fall in love with the Star Wars Universe. Because of that, it’s not hard to believe that artists are inspired by Star Wars too. Art for a Galaxy Far Far Away will be held at Hold Up Art from August 20 through September 5, 2011. Professional illustrator and painter Randy Martinez and Denise Vasquez will be showing their Star Wars-inspired works. Denise has a background in custom vinyl toys and Randy has been working in the Star Wars Universe for a very long time. Here is the location for the exhibit: Hold Up Art 358 E. Second Street, Los Angeles, CA 90012 www.holdupart.com The Opening reception is August 20, 3022 from 7-11pm.

Special Edition Star Wars Xbox announced at SDCC
Announced at SDCC, Microsoft is going to sell a special edition Xbox with Kinect bundle that features Kinect Star Wars and an R2D2 Xbox 360 complete with C3PO controllers. The bundle will be available later this year. But don’t expect it to sell for cheap. Microsoft knows that Star Wars fans seem to like to spend money. It will be $449.99. I believe it’s available for pre-orders now, but I think I’ll just look lovingly at the pics. The price is a bit steep for me. What about you angels?

‘Star Wars Galaxies’ axed by Sony Online Entertainment and LucasArts
Star Wars-based MMO Star Wars Galaxies is shutting its virtual doors on December 15, 2011. According to a letter sent to all subscribers by Sony/LucasArts, the two companies agreed that “2011 is the appropriate time to end the game.” Current players will receive special “Fan Appreciation offers,” and the game will end with a virtual big bang — or at least some other “galaxy-ending in-game event.” Very unfortunate for any fans of this particular game, but it does appear that BioWare’s Star Wars: The Old Republic‘s mere existence has extinguished this game’s flame. It would probably be pretty hard to run two MMOs at once…so the old one’s got to go. Was it a good eight years for you? Leave your memories in the comments.

Be a bounty hunter in “Star Wars: The Old Republic”
Meet the latest class in BioWare and LucasArts’ Star Wars: The Old Republic – the Bounty Hunter. They do what they have to do to bring in their target, but you can have one of a few different kinds of specializations – pick shields and heavy armor to become a Powertech, or be a Mercenary instead and choose highly destructive weapons. (Tank versus DPS, if I am guessing correctly.) Still no official release date for TOR, so just watch that video over and over again, I suppose.

Girls use the force! Show your support to a growing nerd girl in trouble
This morning I read an article that shocked me, and I just had to write about it. I wanted to show support to a growing nerd girl, and get the Gaming Angels Community behind something that has affected us all at one point in our life or another. This story is about a little girl named Katie, who’s mom is a blogger for “Chicago Now.” She wrote about an incident regarding her daughter at school: At summer’s end, Katie and I went to Target to pick out her backpack, lunchbox and water bottle for the new school year. After great deliberation, she chose a Star Wars water bottle to match her Star Wars backpack. Katie loves Star Wars, and she was very excited about her new items. For the first few months of school, she proudly filled her water bottle herself and helped me pack her lunch each morning. But

Experience Star Wars in 3D
Think you have seen Star Wars every way you can? Know every line inside out? Lucasfilm has announced a new way for you to experience Star Wars. The Star Wars Saga will be converted to 3D. Lucasfilm will be starting with the series in numerical order starting with Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace set to be released theatrically in 2012. “Getting good results on a stereo conversion is a matter of taking the time and getting it right,” said John Knoll, Visual Effects Supervisor for Industrial Light & Magic. “It takes a critical and artistic eye along with an incredible attention to detail to be successful. It is not something that you can rush if you want to expect good results. For Star Wars we will take our time, applying everything we know both aesthetically and technically to bring audiences a fantastic new Star Wars experience.” I would
