Supernatural fans rejoice! Tuesday marked the release date for Supernatural Season 5 on Blu-Ray and DVD. Do you know what this means? You too can watch all 22 episodes of Season 5 goodness in the comfort of your own home. Okay, I’m sure that’s usually where you are when you’re watching Supernatural but now there’s no commercials and plenty of extra features to keep you busy until the next season starts.

If you’re not all caught up on what’s been happening with the Winchester brothers, here’s the rundown:

Twenty-six years ago, Sam and Dean Winchester lost their mother to a mysterious and demonic supernatural force. Subsequently, their father raised them to be soldiers. Against a landscape of celestial violence, natural disasters and a rising human death toll, Sam and Dean, with the help of fallen angel Castiel, must find a way to achieve the impossible: Kill the Devil.

That’s a lot of extra time with this season (I mean Ghostfacers!). Seriously, if you’re fan of shows about preternatural creatures/people, Supernatural is one of the best ones out there. It’s worth grabbing not just this season, but all of them, especially when it’s possible we’re getting close to the end of the series. I was a late-comer to the series and dove in head first when I picked up the first season a year or two back. I’ve pretty much devoured each box set as soon as they enter my house, I get so caught up in this series. I highly recommend it.

In the novels, the drying up of oil resources throws the population into an End of Days panic. Communities become more insular and technology stagnates, and in this environment the vampires arise to seize power. Humans are thrown into walled cities to breed and are watched over by terrifying thralls during daylight hours. In this slavery, Peter Harris and a small group of humans try to stand against the vampires and their thralls to free humanity against their new-found slavery. “Derek Gunn didn’t reinvent the vampire novel. Instead he stripped it back to its roots, in the process tearing away the pretensions other writers have used to humanize the fabled bloodsucking monster. The manga in question is named “Natsume’s Book of Friends” and is by Yuki Midorikawa. The manga was first published in a magazine called LaLa DX, and was also a finalist in the first Manga Taisho Awards (2008).

Here’s a synopsis for you:

Takashi Natsume can see spirits and demons that hide from the rest of humanity. He has always been set apart from other people because of his gift, drifting from relative to relative, never fitting in. Now he’s a troubled high school student who has come to live in a small town where his grandmother, Reiko, grew up. And there he discovers that he has inherited more than just the power of Sight from the mysterious Reiko. When Reiko was Takashi’s age, she bound the names of demons and spirits in her Book of Friends, enslaving them to her every capricious whim. Now Takashi is the owner of the book, and the creatures will do anything to get their names back.
