More awesome Domo news for my fellow Domo-holics! Dark Horse and Toy2R will be releasing new blister packaging for the Domo Qees that were most recently launched. There are four new colours for collectors to find in the new blind box packages: solid yellow & orange, and translucent blue and black.

“We have tried to introduce the ‘mystery box’ genre to a more casual consumer, with an equally weighted ratio of four different colors packed in a blind box and paired with a visible brown Domo Qee,” said Dark Horse’s vice president of product development, David Scroggy. “The customer has an equal shot at one of four possible surprise colors. The blister-carded package for the single Domo Qee choices are something new for both Toy2R and Dark Horse. None of these colors is a part of our regular mystery-box assortment, so we hope this will be of interest to collectors as well as the general public.”

These collectible Qees are available at select Target locations throughout the US. Check this list to see if there is a location near you stocking them!

Dark Horse has also announced that the 4 inch line of Deluxe Domo vinyls is going to see a colour change for one of the toys. Instead of Raging Red, they will be releasing Mint Green. These vinyls are limited to five hundred pieces.

What is a Qee?

Qee (pronounced “key”) is a collection of designer toys created by Hong Kong-based company Toy2R, which was founded by Raymond Choy in 1995. Qees are produced in limited numbers and are highly collectible. Many contemporary artists and designers from Asia, Australia, Europe, North America, and South America have designed figures. Domo is the mascot of NHK television in Japan, and is breaking out worldwide as animation, toys, publishing and apparel.

A blogger for ShapingYouth.org wrote Target about her concern about a Target Ad. This ad showed a women with a bullseye target between her legs. Not a huge offense, but Target’s reaction has caused them to receive alot of attention.

“Unfortunately we are unable to respond to your inquiry because Target does not participate with nontraditional media outlets,” a public relations person wrote to ShapingYouth.

“This practice,” the public relations person added, “is in place to allow us to focus on publications that reach our core guest,” as Target refers to its shoppers.

Of course word has spread through the blogsphere and now plenty of writers are discussing Target’s dismissal.

“We do not work with bloggers currently,” said a company spokeswoman, Amy von Walter, who agreed to speak with New York Times.

“But we have made exceptions,” Ms. von Walter said. “And we are reviewing the policy and may adjust it.”

But until then, the ad and the dismissal of the world’s bloggers continues. Very interesting move in a day and age where most companies know the power of the blogger. We’ll see if more companies go the route of Target or if the power of the blog wins out.
