    Japanese Bands Cover The Beatles

Beatlemania was no stranger to Japan. The Beatles one and only tour to Japan occurred in 1966, where they performed 5 concerts at the Budokan Arena in Tokyo. They arrived on Japan Airlines wearing Happi coats (pictured), and were guided through the airport by a large amount of security officers. The arena itself was only used for martial arts matches until then, with the Beatles being the first to perform music there. The concerts all sold out attracting 25, 000 fans, and now the arena is considered sacred ground for rock music in Japan. The Beatle “hurricane” (as they just missed a hurricane the day before their arrival) swept across Japan, inspiring would be musical artists to pick up their guitar picks and practice their music. They were – and still are – so highly idolized by their Japanese fans that many a tribute or cover band has been made.

In order to promote the new service they have hired a spokesperson. The spokesmodel is seen rocking out around Tokyo in public baths, at the laundry, in Shibuya. Somehow Vainya and the spokemodel need to meet. Above is one of the videos from their youtube channel here.

    Would you eat Strawberry Cheetos?

When I think of Cheetos, I think of crunchy cheesy goodness that turns your fingers bright orange. I do not think of strawberry or chocolate. However, the folks at Frito-Lay in Japan apparently do. These Strawberry Cheetos have just hit the shelves in Tokyo. I think they sound a bit intriguing, they’re essential plain cheetos with a strawberry frosting. I’m pretty sure there isn’t a cheese flavoring, although fruit and cheese go well together so I wouldn’t be surprised if it was. Oh and if you’re wondering why strawberry and not chocolate? Well, it’s simple, they already have a chocolate version. So what do you think? Would you try these?

Maid Cafe opening in Culver City

This weekend marks the grand re-opening of Royal/T in Culver City. Royal/T is Los Angeles’ first Japanese inspired maid cafe. The store is part cafe/shop and art space. It is relaunching with the LA art weekend this weekend. Susan Hancock launched the space as a way to showcase her contemporary art collection. The maids dress in traditional Akihabara-style maid uniforms with a Lolita-esque touch. This cafe blends Oktaku and Lolita with style. The Royal/T Maid cafe is opening this weekend and from 8-10pm Lolitas should come on down because photographer Masayuki Yoshinaga will be signing his book Gothic & Lolita. So come and display for him how wonderful American Lolita’s are. The cafe has a great blend of traditional food from Tokyo’s Akihbara district. There is a fusion between California and Japanese texture to the menu. In the shop you can pick up t-shirts, figures, toys, bags, and lots of
