No, GamingAngels hasn’t branched out into bringing you real estate sale news – not just yet anyway. However, our friends at VIZ have let us know about a new manga series that could see you imagining a new life in a new home – in space!

Saturn Apartments DOSEI MANSION © 2006 Hisae IWAOKA/Shogakukan

Intrigued? Well, here is what you can expect if you pick this manga up:

Far in the future, humankind has evacuated Earth in order to preserve it. Humans now reside in a gigantic structure that forms a ring around the earth, 35,000 kilometers up in the sky. The society of the Ring System is strictly stratified: the higher the floor, the greater the status. Mitsu, the lowly son of a window washer, has just graduated. Five years after his father disappears and is assumed dead, Mitsu takes on his father’s occupation. As he struggles with the transition to working life, Mitsu’s job treats him to an outsider’s view into the living-room dioramas of the Saturn Apartments.

The series is written by Hisae Iwaoka, and has been featured in Japan’s IKKI magazine. The manga will be published under the VIZ Signature imprint in the US as part of the companies partnership with IKKI.

Daniel Gillespie, Editor, VIZ Media:

“SATURN APARTMENTS delivers a brilliant vision of a future where Earth is just beyond the grasp of humanity,” says Daniel. “As Mitsu endeavors to become an adult, he treats us to touching insights on working life, dreams and ambitions, class tension, the value of community and family, and the perplexing loneliness that occurs when people are forced to live on top of one another. It’s a poignant metaphor for urban life, drawn with stunning intricacy and irresistible cuteness.”

If you’d like to get a peek at the release, you can visit www.SigIKKI.com where they have it up on their site for you. But if you’re already convinced that you would like this manga, keep an eye out on May 8th.

SATURN APARTMENTS is rated “T” for Teens, and will cost around $12.99US or $16.99CAN. If you like you can find a copy of the manga at our RightStuf or Amazon stores!

Sci-fi action manga readers will be happy as there is a new manga named “Biomega” being released next Tuesday, February 2nd.

Zoichi Kanoe plunges into the depths of 9JO, a sprawling island city in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, in search of Eon Green, a girl with the power to transmute the N5S virus. The deadly contagion is spreading across the world, turning humans into disfigured, zombie-like “drones.” But he’s not the only one looking for her. Agents of the Public Health Service’s Compulsory Execution Unit are also in hot pursuit, with sinister designs of their own. Zoichi and his trans-human allies have no time to waste; the countdown to the apocalypse has begun!

“Biomega” was created by Tsutomu Nihei. His first manga “BLAME!” won the Shiki Award in Japan, and was nominated for North America’s Harvey Award. He also wrote a Wolverine tie-in which was published by Marvel, and was commissioned by Bungie Studios for the HALO graphic novel.

Leyla Aker, Editorial Manager, VIZ Media:

“Tsutomu Nihei created BIOMEGA with a jaw-dropping, intensely powerful art style that reflects his background in modern architecture,” says Leyla. “The main characters—the “enhanced” human Zoichi and Fuyu, the AI in his rocket of a motorcycle—navigate this apocalyptic landscape in a story that offers pure speed, action, and suspense. Both manga and American comics fans won’t want to miss this exciting debut!”

“BIOMEGA” will be printed under the VIZ Signature imprint, rated ‘M’ for Mature Audiences, and will cost $12.99US or $16.99CAN. If you’d like more information then please visit www.viz.com.

Yes, it’s true – there is more you could possibly add to your list of wants for this Christmas. Don’t blame me though – it’s VIZ’s fault, but considering they keep on bringing out so many great releases it’s not exactly easy to keep yourself from being greedy!

This time we have vampires, ghosts, crime drama and teenage angst awaiting us. I won’t hold back – so what’s in store?

VIZ Signature releases include:

Children of the sea, Vol. 1 (available now) and Vol. 2 (available December 15, pictured – top right)

Now she feels drawn toward the aquarium and the two mysterious boys she meets there, Umi and Sora. They were raised by dugongs and hear the same strange calls from the sea as she does. Ruka’s dad and the other adults who work at the aquarium are only distantly aware of what the children are experiencing as they get caught up in the mystery of the worldwide disappearance of the oceans’ fish. CHILDREN OF THE SEA is a surreal and riveting aquatic adventure from Daisuke Igarashi. Igarashi was given the Award of Excellence by the Japan Cartoonists Association in 2009.

In Volume 1, what begins with a college dropout bored of her mediocre routine soon becomes a fantastic series of stories about the unexpected ways that different lives intersect. Filled with magical realism in the face of the cold reality of daily modern life, at their core these stories are about young people discovering something precious amidst the chaos of existence. Volume 2 continues to explore similar themes including the cruelty of childhood, the delusion of adulthood, the endurance of death and how people find a way to remain resolute and laugh in the face of reality.
