People were speculating for weeks about the name of the device, but today, everything’s official. The iPad will (hopefully) be shipping in a Wi-Fi-only model in 60 days, and a 3G-enabled device (using AT&T’s service, sorry) will be available in 90 days. There are three tiers of each, based on storage space, and the starting price for a 16GB Wi-Fi-only unit? $499. Amazing. This thing will be really fun to game on, and I’m not even thinking about the rest. We liveblogged the presentation, but if you don’t want to sift through all of that, we’ll recap what we know about the device.

Right now, we know that it’s a 9.7-inch giant iPhone. Well, minus the phone part. No camera, no multitasking, no Flash. At least two of those things can be fixed with software updates, but the things that can’t change with firmware revisions might be dealbreakers for some people.

It’s half an inch thin, roughly the same as the iPhone. It runs a slightly different build of the iPhone OS, but uses the same apps. They can be blown up to fill the entire screen, and some developers may even make new versions of their apps.

It has access to the iTunes Store, the App Store, and a new Store, the iBook Store. It features exactly what it sounds like it should. The iPad supports ePUB files, making it a lot more open. I’d assume you add those to iTunes and it sticks them on your virtual bookshelf. Same cable as the iPod and iPhone, same sort of dock will be available, and then…well, then there’s the keyboard dock. Not only will you be able to type on the screen, but you can attach a keyboard to this particular iProduct. Maybe this will make the MacBook Air obsolete. Who knows.

What we do know, though is that gaming on this thing will be incredible. Same accelerometer as the iPhone/iPod Touch, with a compass. That will make for some fairly interactive games and fun augmented reality abilities. But the biggest game-changer is the chip inside. Based on what EA showed with Need for Speed Shift, the CPU is pretty good. My phone probably would’ve chopped that to bits. The more space you have, the better you can do.

The real fun comes when indie designers get their hands on this. Can’t wait to see what they come up with (even if I can’t play it immediately).

The Nook which will be released on November 6th, is coined to be the “The world’s most advanced E-reader.” You figure that this would be a very hefty claim to make. Well this e-reader appears to be able to do a lot. Not only are you able to take a small library where ever you go, you are also able to download new books though the Nook’s 3G and Wi-fi connectivity. The great thing with the Nook is the fact that you can share your books with other people for fourteen days if they have another Nook or have downloaded the software into their computer, IPhone, or Blackberry. Also, if you have left your Nook home and you wish to continue reading, if you have downloaded your own software onto you Blackberry, or Iphone, you can pick up where you left off. The Nook has 2GB of space and a micro SD card slot to add more memory if you desire to. Other features of the Nook is the fact that it is not backlit, unlike most computer monitors, which causes less strain on a person’s vision while reading, the fact you can bookmark you place, mark up the pages, the choice of five different font sizes, you can try a book before you buy it, it functions as an MP3 player where you can listen to audio books, and other forms of music while reading and there are thousands of free books avaiable.

The Nook comes with

nook

Micro-USB 2.0 cable

Quick Start Guide

AC adapter

Rechargeable battery (installed)

The Nook itself is priced at $259 and will be avaiable mid-late November and currently is only avaiable within the US.

The Amazon Kindle now has a lower price! Down from $299, the Kindle is $259. The $259 Kindle has the ability to use US Wireless. The $279 version has US and International Wireless in case you are a constant traveler.

The $259 Kindle is available for immediate shipping while the $279 can be pre-ordered today for delivery starting in two weeks.

The wireless technology used is 3G which means you won’t have to hunt for a Wi-Fi spot. You also won’t have any wireless bills or any contracts to sign. They have a coverage map here so you can see how good the coverage is in your area.

The Kindle can hold 1,500 books and the battery life allows for up to two weeks of reading on a single charge.

I don’t have a Kindle yet and I look forward to the day I can play around with one, but the reviews on the Amazon page reflect that users are having a good experience with the Kindle.

UPDATE: GamingAngels.com will be one of the many blogs you can choose from to read on your Kindle in 48-72 hours! Let me know if you subscribe!

How to you promote your brand new eco-friendly car? Well my combining three of our favoritate things: Wifi, Eco-friendly solar Power and free electioneer for your gadgets! Toyota is placing 18 foot tall solar flowers in a few major cities around the US in order to promote the 2010 Prius. What Toyota is trying to promote is the Prius theme of “Harmony between Man, Nature, and Machine.” by putting up a eco-friendly way to juice up your gadgets.
The daisy shaped flowers stand 18 feet tall, and provide seating for up to ten people and by featuring laptop and cell phone recharging stations and access to free wireless internet service.
For those who wish to try this out, Toyota has launched this campegin in Boston’s Prudential Plaza with sites to follow in New York, followed by Chicago, Seattle, San Francisco, and Los Angeles.

I mean how can you go wrong? Free charging of our fave gadgets on the run? I’d sit under a huge flower if I can charge my ever drying cell phone. Also, if you get to try it out, please drop us a comment at GA for you can tell us what you think.
