Sneak in the shadows and stalk potential suspects as Wei Shen, an undercover cop, tries to dismantle a criminal organization—the Hong Kong Triads.

Sleeping Dogs offers shoot-outs at every corner of the city adorned in neon lights bordering the streets. Guns aren’t the only method of combat. Get up close and pound enemies with martial arts and objects found in the city.

The United Front Games and Square Enix game is an open-world cop drama that will be released later this year for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Windows PC.

“Working on Sleeping Dogs has been such a huge passion for the team at United Front Games and we’re really pleased to be working with Square Enix London Studios,” said Stephen Van Der Mescht, Executive Producer at United Front Games. “The extensive experience both our studios have in creating compelling openworld gameplay and rich and rewarding combat makes for a perfect partnership. Working together we can make sure that Sleeping Dogs is the most intense and immersive experience it can be.”

Does this game look a little familar? It should. After Activision canned True Crime: Hong Kong last year, Square Enix picked up the game…but not the IP rights. Oops? Not really — Square Enix was basically just forced to rebrand the entire thing, and Sleeping Dogs is the result.

Here’s a trailer to get your feet wet.

In this week’s edition of “Oh, hey, I didn’t expect that (even though I should’ve),” we have Battleship, coming from a partnership between Activision and Hasbro. And so a video game based on a movie based on a board game is a thing that is actually happening. Though you shouldn’t try to say that three times fast.

…yep.

“We’re geared up for an outrageous sea and land conflict with the all new BATTLESHIP videogame,” said David Oxford, Activision Publishing. “Inspired by the film’s exciting action and stunning backdrop, the game is next-gen naval warfare that thrusts players into the middle of humanity’s last stand against an unfamiliar menace.”

I…have never thought about next-gen naval warfare while trying to figure out which coordinates that stupid, tiny destroyer floated on. I also missed the part where the original Battleship had land warfare. I also always knew who I was making my last stand against. (It was my mother, and she had a knack for taking me down quickly.) I have also never put characters on my boats (mostly because they were too tiny and I didn’t miss the part where it was a board game). But this has not stopped Double Helix, who are developing the game for Activision.

In Battleship, you’ll play as demolitions specialist Cole Mathis (who, I’m betting, is going to sink a battleship! Teehee!), who is essentially stuck in a deserted land and sea area where his cell phone doesn’t work. Well, okay, it’s Hawaii. Also, considering that I once had a boyfriend call me from the top of a volcano in Hawaii, I’m not quite understanding this “dead zone” thing. But I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt. Maybe he has Sprint or something.

Anywho, the game somehow combines first-person shootery goodness with naval strategy simulation, so it’s Call of Duty meets…well, the board game. The key word is “somehow.” You’ll command frigates, cruisers, destroyers, submarines and…well, a very surprising last ship — the USS Missouri battleship.

Why so surprising? Well, the USS Missouri is a museum. So, I’d imagine that makes it very easy for the enemy to find — just go to Pearl Harbor. It’s kind of just…there. And it has a P.O. Box and everything. Easy!

Battleship arrives in Europe this April, followed by North America in May. It’ll be available for PS3 and Xbox 360 with special versions available for Wii, Nintendo DS and 3DS.

Here’s a trailer chock-full of “Not actual game footage.”

Kinect Star Wars now features five modes: Jedi Destiny: Dark Side Rising, Podracing, Rancor Rampage, Galactic Dance Off and Duels of Fate. (No, Galactic Dance Off isn’t a typo — that mode features Star Wars-inspired pop tunes. And you battle Darth Vader on the dance floor. Yeaaaaaaah.)

Buy the bundle and you get an extra unlockable for that Galactic Dance Off — C-3PO. I bet he’s really good at doing The Robot. Just a guess, though.

You can preorder the bundle on Amazon here (and ignore that June release date).

The game will be available through Steam and other digital channels (like Origin) on February 16 for $29.99 (or $34.99).

PC gamers will be able to experience the entire game, plus the DLC, all in one package.

“We’ve done our best to do justice to the PC version and do things the way they should be done for PC. The PC version looks absolutely beautiful. We’re bringing the game to life in a whole new way,” said Markus Mäki, CTO at Remedy.

The PC version will also include support for stereoscopic 3D and multiscreen-capable setups. Developers have also added features like field of view adjustment and a “Hide HUD” feature.

In case you haven’t heard, Mass Effect 3 has multiplayer. You can even watch a little bit of how that’s going to work out here. Oh, and there’s going to be a demo for the game hitting on Valentine’s Day, for the ultimate battle of person love versus game love. (Let us know who wins.)

Now, if you’re giving the game a try on Xbox 360, there’s one tiny, little niggling detail that might keep you from ultimate enjoyment — you’ve got to have a Gold account to truly enjoy the multiplayer part of that demo.

Fortunately, Microsoft’s helping you out a little bit on that front! As posted in their forums yesterday, Microsoft has decided, “[i]n celebration of Mass Effect 3,” to allow everyone to have access to the multiplayer part of the game for the duration of the demo.

According to the post, it does look as though this includes full access to Gold — but only for a very limited time. Just enough to get you hooked, perhaps. Just remember, the first hit is free, and then it takes over your life.

Battle your friends, zombies or just try to survive in Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City‘s multiplayer modes. Capcom announced today the different versus modes for the game, which comes out March 20 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Players can fight against four friends in team battles. Your team can play as the US Spec Ops or Umbrella Security Service, the good and evil factions in the game respectively. Each group has six playable characters. Vector, Beltway, Lupo, Four-Eyes, Spectre and Bertha are your USS characters. Tweed, Dee-ay, Harley, Willow, Shona and Party Girl are members of the US Spec Ops. What differs in this game from other third person shooters is teams must also face enemies of zombies and B.O.W.s in the various multiplayer modes.

Team deathmatch stays traditional as teams battle for the most kills, but with the twist of fighting zombies and B.O.W.s players can expect fast paced battles and lots of dying.

What really sounds interesting is the game’s variation on capture the flag, and could only be unique to a zombie shooter is the Biohazard mode. Teams must ferry samples of the G-virus and keep them safe at their base.

Players clash in survivors mode while waiting for coveted spots on the rescue helicopter. Only a certain amount of seats are available on the aircraft, so if you fail, you succumb to the wrath of zombies.

In heroes mode, players get to play as the legendary Resident Evil characters, Leon S. Kennedy, Hunk or Jill Valentine.

Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City seems like it is breathing life into multiplayer.

Everyone had their cliques, their associations. You know where you sat for lunch. Yeah, that was your group.

San Romero High is no different.

Meet Swan. He wants to take over the world as a bit of revenge on those who chose to ridicule him and put him down.

Unfortunately for him, there’s Juliet. And she…well, doesn’t really want that to happen. Sorry, guy. Watch this trailer to learn a little more about the goth that wants world domination.

We know all about love triangles. This trailer from Capcom for Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City shows off a completely new dynamic, though — the hate triangle.

See, the Umbrella Security Service team is working against the zombies and US Spec Ops. US Spec Ops is working against USS and the zombies. And the zombies just hate/want to eat everyone, ever. It’s kind of their thing.

It’s what Capcom’s calling a “Triple Threat” — nice word choice given that we’re looking at the T-virus.

Here’s (almost) six minutes of zombie-killin’ action. (Note: Don’t watch this if you don’t want to hear swearing and see some bloody messes.) Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City will be released March 20.

SEGA officially announced the second episode of Sonic the Hedgehog 4 today, which will be released sometime during the 2012 that is rapidly speeding toward us (much like Sonic himself). In addition to Microsoft and Sony’s online stores, Episode II will come to Apple’s App Store, the Android Market and Windows Phone 7′s iteration of Xbox LIVE.

The physics engine has been reworked from the ground up, and new character animations have been added. Speaking of things that are new — Tails is making an appearance (finally).

“After twenty years in action, it’s clear that Sonic hasn’t slowed down one bit,” said Haruki Satomi, Senior Vice President of Digital Business at SEGA of America. “The first entry in the Sonic 4 saga was a major success. We’ve listened to the fans and been hard at work making sure we recapture that same spirit of fun in Episode II. We hope the fans will enjoy it.”

The Xbox 360 collection will include:

1942: Joint Strike

Bionic Commando Rearmed 2

Final Fight: Double Impact

Flock!

Rocketmen: Axis of Evil, including the Rocketmen: It Came From Uranus expansion

Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix

Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix

Wolf of the Battlefield

All games are rated E to Teen, and if you were already interested in all of these, it’s probably a pretty good deal. Otherwise…well, if you only wanted one or two, you’re probably better off downloading them. You’ll save the cash and a trip to the store.
