Imagine A World of Keflings filled with gingerbread and candy. How about living the pirate life, or in a gruesome graveyard world overflowing with skeletons and zombies.

NinjaBee, an independent game developer, is letting gamers decide which theme will be the next downloadable content. Players can vote for either the graveyard, candy or pirate theme between today and midnight PST, Friday, Jan. 20.

The official Microsoft Studios’ Xbox Live Arcade blog, PlayXBLA.com, is working with NinjaBee and hosting the vote. The new theme will give players new characters, buildings and storylines to experience, expanding the play value of the game.

Brent Fox, the art director and co-owner of NinjaBee said, each time a player votes NinjaBee enters them into a drawing to be made into a Kefling character that will turn up in the game.

“I mean, who doesn’t want to be turned into a tiny, chipper peon forced to eternally work for free,” said Fox.

Other gamers will win Keflings t-shirts, plushies and NinjaBee game codes. NinjaBee will announce the winning theme on Monday, Jan. 23.

So, let’s hope candy wins, because evil wizards and unicorn kings are awesome. Oh, did I mention candy?

Battle your friends, zombies or just try to survive in Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City‘s multiplayer modes. Capcom announced today the different versus modes for the game, which comes out March 20 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Players can fight against four friends in team battles. Your team can play as the US Spec Ops or Umbrella Security Service, the good and evil factions in the game respectively. Each group has six playable characters. Vector, Beltway, Lupo, Four-Eyes, Spectre and Bertha are your USS characters. Tweed, Dee-ay, Harley, Willow, Shona and Party Girl are members of the US Spec Ops. What differs in this game from other third person shooters is teams must also face enemies of zombies and B.O.W.s in the various multiplayer modes.

Team deathmatch stays traditional as teams battle for the most kills, but with the twist of fighting zombies and B.O.W.s players can expect fast paced battles and lots of dying.

What really sounds interesting is the game’s variation on capture the flag, and could only be unique to a zombie shooter is the Biohazard mode. Teams must ferry samples of the G-virus and keep them safe at their base.

Players clash in survivors mode while waiting for coveted spots on the rescue helicopter. Only a certain amount of seats are available on the aircraft, so if you fail, you succumb to the wrath of zombies.

In heroes mode, players get to play as the legendary Resident Evil characters, Leon S. Kennedy, Hunk or Jill Valentine.

Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City seems like it is breathing life into multiplayer.

Between now and December 25, Dead Island is giving away some serious loot. You know, the kind of stuff that you can’t get by going through a zombie’s pockets. Each week, you can visit christmas.deadisland.com and answer a zombie- or Dead Island-related question (or solve a puzzle) to get some kind of prize (today: a holiday-themed wallpaper).

But that’s not the biggest thing. Every week has a Big Kahuna prize, of sorts. You could win:

A collection of 10 classic zombie flicks on Blu-Ray

A PS3 with a hand airbrushed Dead Island design

A 46″ Sony Bravia 3D HDTV

A 1 week vacation for 2 to a tropical island AND a hand airbrushed Dead Island Xbox 360

If you win the island getaway, be sure to take me along, okay?

Techland’s Dead Island has been promised DLC since its release on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC in September. Yesterday, we finally got word that the content’s arrival is imminent — November 22.

The “Bloodbath Arena,” which is free to all who pre-ordered the game and $9.99/800 Microsoft Points for everyone else, offers four arenas and multiple challenges for co-op mode. In this mode, which seems to amount to a zombie survival challenge, you collect experience points that you can bring over to the main campaign. This content also adds leaderboards and a new weapon, the brain wave bomb. Somehow, I don’t think I want to know what that is.

Dead Island… Zombies, buckets of blood, use everything you see on your path to kill the zombies, and a story to go [...]

Dead Island… Zombies, buckets of blood, use everything you see on your path to kill the zombies, and a story to go with it. What else do you want? If you aren’t convinced already to get the game when it releases on September 6th, nothing I say will convince you. What I can tell you is that I got a chance to play with the game at PAX Prime this year and my hunger for killing zombies grew instead of being sedated. I had the pleasure of speaking with Doug Macleod, who is the project consultant for Dead Island and before we got to the questions and answers, the first things he said “Just aim for the head!” I whack my paddle against the zombie, sending him down on the sand. “Now, get on top, crouch down and aim for the head!” he tells me, and I followed suit. As I swung my paddle it made an disgusting crunch and splat sound, the head of the zombie crack opens with pieces of brains flying with blood spewing all over the sand in buckets. The scene was nothing but horrific, but absolutely fascinating and amazing. “WOW!” I said to Doug “COOL HUH?” he said, as we quickly turned into fanboy and fangirl.

In the game, you have 4 different characters and each character fulfills a different roll. The assassin character excels with sharp weapons, knifes, cleavers, anything dealing with cutting. You can also add a ‘blood rage’ ability or combat for sharp damages. Survival allows you to keep yourself alive ant it is highly recommended to spec survival when playing solo campaigns. Playing the game with more than just yourself, you’ll be able to spec into the more aggressive roles and have more fun with it. Sadly, the game does not support local co-op, but when you play online co-op, your friends can come in and out of the game, without having to end the current game. You will also get quests, where it will allow for the story to be moved forward. Some will be related to the survivors and some will be related as to why this island seems to be overrun with zombies. The best part is that if you want to stay and explore the section of the island you are currently in, you can. You are not tied to the story or to the quest. You can look around, kill as many zombies as you like, level up and explore the island to your heart’s content. Talking about the story a bit more, as the cut scenes played I noticed a lot of similar images from old zombie movie classics like Night of the Living Dead. I asked Doug if this was a if this was a coincidence or a deliberate attempt to grab inspiration from the vast library of zombie movies. “A lot of research was done on the classic zombie movies and some of the newer ones. You’ll notice that there are some ‘28 Days Later’ types of zombies that are sprinting at you all the time. We have also taken inspiration from mutant type zombies. A lot of it was because we wanted a game that focused on survival. A lot of zombie games are not that focused on survival and we wanted to make this one as close as we could make it, as true as to what it might be like.”

The weapons in the game are abundant, but they have the limitation of durability. By simply pressing RB, you’ll be able to see a circle that shows you how many of that particular weapon you currently have. Once it is gone, it’s gone, so you have to plan accordingly and pick up new weapons as you progress through the area. Any weapon you carry, is capable of being thrown at the zombie, for some spectacular combinations of throw, run, pick up weapon from zombie and kill, if that is your style of playing. I will neither confirm nor deny the possibility that I might have done just that, several times, during the demo. If that wasn’t enough, you’ll be able to combine weapons in order to make them even more powerful when fighting a horde. The character I happened to be playing was Xian Mei, who was fashionably equipped with heels. Heels at the beach? After a zombie invasion? Let’s not use ‘logic’ and suspend reason for a second and enjoy the fact that Xian can kick and stab the zombie with your heel, hurting the zombie enough to bring him down and allowing you to chop his head right off!

If zombie killing is your thing, Dead island is clocking around thirty hours from beginning to end, due to its long and deep nature. If that isn’t enough, relatively soon after the game is out, you’ll have the Blood Bath Arena DLC to keep yourself busy, adding to the amount of game play this game will have from day one. The DLC is said to be free if you pre-order the limited edition copy of the game from Gamestop, but for those of you that don’t have Gamestop near you, you’ll be able to purchase it for around $10. If you go the Gamestop route, you’ll have some exclusive weapons like the Reaper (A baseball bat), and a buzz saw. So keep an eye as to what retailer has the weapon you like, as I was told that different locations will have different weapons.

With the possibility of exploring all you want, create new weapons, kick, make zombie heads explode and so much more, no doubt this zombie game will be on the top of many people’s list for a while. The best part? It’s out very soon!

Listen to the music in this Dead Island trailer. Sound familiar? It’s the melancholy tune that served as the backdrop for that very first emotional trailer out months ago.

Remember, as the sun sets on this particular marketing campaign, that there was once a time when we thought this game would have a lot more meaning. Then, watch this launch trailer. Then, remember that the game we know now is nothing like what we thought it would be.

But at least it’s bloody. (Trailer contains mature language.)

In every zombie game with a team of dedicated individuals fighting off the swarm, there’s one rule. Now, what is that rule?

Stick together, lest the zombies eat your brains.

Techland’s Dead Island is no different, really. And your team can involve your friends, so that’s good, too. I trust my friends with my life in the event of a zombie apocalypse, especially on an island resort.

This trailer shows off a little bit of co-op gameplay, and it also brings back the music that will melt your heart. (And the hanged body that made some people a little iffy about the logo, so, uh…keep this away from your kids.) Enjoy.

Activision and Treyarch recently announced “Rezurrection,” an all-Zombies content pack for Call of Duty: Black Ops, launching first on Xbox LIVE thanks to exclusivity deals.

In this content pack, the anti-zombie fight is taken into space. No, really, there’s a whole level on the Moon. Granted, this looks to be a Moon where humans have managed to build something, but who needs realism, right? This is all about zombies. We don’t need any stinkin’ realism.

The content pack adds the Moon level, four remastered Zombie levels (Nacht der Untoten, Verruckt, Shi No Numa and Der Riese), new weapons and new gear.

If you purchased Black Ops‘ Hardened or Prestige Editions and therefore already own the four remastered levels, you can download the rest of the content pack for no charge. Everyone else will have to pay 1200 Microsoft Points.

The Treyarch team will host a Double XP event over the Labor Day weekend.
