    ‘Dead Island’ invades PlayStation Home

The infection is spreading in ways we didn’t think possible, people…and by that, I mean that the zombies from Dead Island‘s beautiful Banoi are coming to PlayStation Home. (That would have been a lot funnier if we weren’t already talking about a video game full of fake things, but work with me here.) It will start in the Central Plaza…a few zombies here or there, you know. But eventually, the whole place will be overrun, to the point where it will actually look like the game’s Royal Palms Resort. A minigame for up to four players at a time will be available to visitors. In it, you’ll defend against a zombie horde in one of ten challenges. Complete all ten and you get the “Exploding Meat” weapon for use in the full game. There’ll also be a couple of other activities available, like getting your avatar’s photo taken with a

‘Annihilation’ arrives on PC and PS3 later this month

Yay for PS3 and PC Black Ops players! The Xbox 360 exclusivity period for the Annihilation content pack is apparently up on July 28, exactly one month after the original release. No changes for this version, it’s all the same as originally reported. The maps include a drive-in movie theater, a golf course and a Shangri-La Zombies map. Ah, zombies in paradise.

PopCap says hi to their new boss at EA

It was confirmed today that Electronic Arts has bought PopCap for what might be the largest amount spent on a game company yet. The amount after stocks and some other complicated figures, is around $1.3 billion. The rumors started a week or so ago on Twitter and it looks like in this case the rumors were true. What I love is that PopCap turned around to show that they still have same creative humor that they are known for with the greeting to their new bosses above. EA CEO John Riccitiello noted that they don’t want to change how PopCap operates. “PopCap has been an attractive target for us for years,” he said. “We think of it as one of the premier content creators in the history of our industry.” EA does have a proven track record of not changing Bioware. Only time will tell if PopCap can maintain their

Online Game of the Week – Zombie Dolls

This week’s OGOTW is a zombie-lite game in which one little guy has to defend his backyard from hordes of zombified dolls with various weapons and barricades. The light hearted music and little “ow”s that come from the zombies are a pleasant contradiction to the point of the game, which makes it more amusing – at least to me. Enjoy!

Take a look at Dead Island’s box art

Techland’s Dead Island, the melee zombie game that had us tearing up through its initial reveal trailer (still sad that the trailer isn’t really indicative of the game at all), is getting closer and closer to release, and this box art is proof. It releases for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 on August 1. Spoiler: It’s got zombies on it! Also, for the PS3 and Xbox versions…just imagine that it’s got the usual logos slapped on. I love PC box art because it’s so much…emptier.

Featured Facebook Game of the Week – Zombie Lane

Oh my, zombies just keep on coming in all shapes and forms. In Zombie Lane, the main objective is to fight zombies and keep them out of the neighborhood… which needs to be continually rebuilt from the damage they do. This game has a lot going on, which I thought initially would discourage me from returning to it, but the hints, easy start, and tutorial aspects help quite a bit without constantly interfering. I love the customizable avatar, for some reason, that is usually pretty important to me. There, of course, could be more clothing and such to choose from, but being able to have one that looks how I want her to look is aces. Fighting most of the zombies comes easy armed with just a shovel, allowing players to collect helpful items to rebuild their homes, craft stronger weapons, share with friends, and advance through the game. So

Black Ops adds the ‘Escalation’ map pack on May 3

Call of Duty: Black Ops is getting another “content pack” — and this time it’s called “Escalation.” Ooh. The fact that this is happening is basically a giant “duh” moment, since they like to put out as much content as possible for these games (especially since people will keep paying for it). This one features four more multiplayer maps — Zoo, Convoy, Hotel and Stockpile — along with another Zombies experience in Call of the Dead. Apparently the entire game has already logged two billion hours of played, which is kind of ridiculous, and the first content pack sold 1.4 million units in the first 24 hours. We’ll see how this pack does when it’s released May 3 on Xbox 360, and who-knows-when on Ps3 and PC.
